Recently in the states, a black man was strangled to death by police officers for peddling weed on the streets. He was unarmed and was cooperative but the officers still decided to use extreme force on him. Before dying, the man complained that he couldn't breathe yet the officers did not release him from the choke hold. In my eyes, this act is straight up murder. There is zero legal or logical justification for the violence used on this man. To make matters worse, the officer was not charged for murder by the court and got away with less than a slap on his wrist. I pose the question, would such violence be used on a white man in this situation? Sure he would be arrested but would the officers use such force on him? This is clearly an act of violence brought on by racial prejudice and stereotype. I am not an african american yet I feel the anguish many african americans feel. This unjust and unfair treatment has to stop. Yes, African Americans have a notorious REPUTATION of being violent and having a higher propensity for crime. This is brought on by years of racial stereotypes and prejudice. We should stop defining people with their skin colour and instead start judging them based on the quality of their character and the actions they carry out. We should stop generalising and spreading hatred of other racial groups and start loving one another as fellow human beings. We view ourselves as highly intelligent beings that dominate the top of the food chain yet we cannot let go of our savage desire to dominate others of our kind. When can we start seeing peace in our societies? I am not saying racism is a problem only in the states. I am well aware it is a global phenomenon yet it is a very prevalent case study to review. I end my rant and hope to hear your input.

EDIT: Checking police website, last reported ones I can find are from 1993 and 1967, apparently the police haven't killed anyone since then.

Well, I feel like I am on a fence personally. I hate rasicm, and I find it disgusting that these cops are getting away with atrocities like this. Murdering people in broad daylight with no consequence. However we can't say that this hatred and racism develops from nothing. In many of the cities of america there are ghettos filled with gangsters, very dominately black and mexican. They cause so many issues with their gang activity and disgusting random acts of violence it makes sense anyone would hate them. Of course not all minorities are "gangsters". Part of the reason the minorities make up these groups are because of racism of the last generation. Minorities were always shit on by white people years ago, so they have gotten less money worse education ect. That's how the "ghetto" becomes. So it's almost like a cycle of hatred fueling itself. And if america didn't have so many ghettos and crime was balanced out between people of all nationalities maybe it wouldn't be such an issue. I have no idea how to break that chain though. Takes a smarter man than me.

I can see where you are coming from and I do agree with you. However, my rage and concern is due the people judging others of color by the actions of other members of their racial groups and not the individual himself. I find it perplexing and downright disgusting that people are doing that. Why are you automatically condemning someone of color based of the actions of others? He did nothing to you and yet you are being critical and prejudicial towards him. I just don't understand.

Actually he was selling cigarettes. He was killed because he basically didn't pay his taxes, and because of the fascists running new york, a pack of cigs costs like 15 bucks.

 

And please, do not fall prey to the race baiting going on in the media, this has nothing to do with color, and has everything to do with the corruption of government and police.

I agree that rioting and causing trouble isn't the best way to get your voices heard but the angry mobs on the street has had enough. So many incidences of injustice stemming from racism, it's just enough. They are trying to get their voices heard. Nobody of authority are willing to listen to them. What choices do that have?
