Cortana running on windows 10!

shermantanker

Here is a video Winbeta just posted demoing an early build of Cortana in windows 10.

This is personally one of my favorite features in windows 10 so far, and this will be a big boost to productivity depending on how well the final implementation works. At the moment there is no "Hey, Cortana" hands off dictation, but it will most likely be in there upon release. Also ff Microsoft can open her up for developers, who knows how far they could go.

Does Cortana work behind the scenes? Would be cool to get Cortana to browse while in gaming in full screen mode, so you don't get disturbed, which would be the only reason for this handsoff feature.

I can't wait to see what it will look like in the Consumer Preview in January. The nice thing about Cortana is that you don't have to always speak, she can accept text input as well.

Cortana is by far the best personal assistant, Siri is aweful and google now is on a different level.

Thinking into what's actually possible here Cortana could be a game changer, imagine

"Cortana, run Word", " Cortana, take dictation", "Cortana, save file", "Cortana, run Steam", "Cortana, swap to screen b", " Cortana, shut down PC "

The possibilities are endless.

Few questions guys as im not so educated on the software side.

Does hands off refer to as in not needing to open an application to use cortana?

Like saying "Hey Cortana" randomly at any time, including during full screen applications?

Couldnt they use some good voice recognition program instead of that janky windows one? Would that cost more?

What are her commands ranging from?

Interested in that a lot.

Edit:

Cortana is by far the best personal assistant, Siri is aweful and google now is on a different level.

The possibilities are endless.

Exactly what I want, the ability to do anything available in the system.

No pre-determined commands or anything, full control.

"Cortana, find porn"

"Cortana, no scope that noob in bf4"

I asked her on WP8.1 if she would suck me off, she replied that I was being out of order then asked me if I wanted her to find porn of men being sucked off. No shit, try it out. Just say "Cortana, suck me off" or "Cortana, would you fuck me?"

How long till someone invents a mini-hologram projector to project a full body Cortana near your PC so that you can directly talk to her. How long till there is porn of it...

i just dont see how this would be faster than a few mouse clicks..

Then your not seeing the bigger picture. Imagine you could tell her you were going to issue a string of commands and then do multiple things quickly with just your voice. The mouse and keyboard could be completely eliminated for most things. If MS added the cortana libraries to Visual Studio then any apps made in it could be made to operate entirely without the need for mouse and keyboard input. You'd only need to touch them for playing games.

i just dont see how this would be faster than a few mouse clicks..

Neither do I.

If it's not always listening then why would I start the Cortana program just to have her open and/or do something? Why have her resume my music when I can just put the music player in the start menu right next to the Cortana button.

If she is listening all the time when I simply won't get Windows 10. There is no way I am having my OS always listening on me, while at the same time being hooked up to Microsoft's servers.

On top of that, these kinds of features rarely work well for languages other than English, and a lot of times it ends up not interpreting/doing exactly what you want so you end up having to do it manually anyway.

Oh and you look like an enormous idiot when you shout at your phone/computer.

Like for example? I just don't see how speaking to my computer, then have it process the command and then finally do it. I mean just look at the speed in the video. Asking "what's on my schedule today" took 7 seconds. The same thing can be done using your keyboard in maybe 1 second. That's without factoring in the possibility that it might get your voice command wrong as well.

It seems like a gimmick to me. Doubt many people will use it more than a handful of times in the beginning.

You guys need to think past yourselves. I'm sure people with physical disabilities that prevent them from being able to use their hands would love to see a full fledged Cortana implementation in Windows 10.

It's called virtuagirl if I remember correctly. Some of you guys seem hard pressed for desktop strippers.

I still think the choice of name is a little daft.

Yes for those with disabilities this might be great. That's the exception rather than the norm though.

I don't see why so many people that don't have those kinds of disabilities are freaking out over Cortana. Like I said before, I bet most people will use it a handful of times in the beginning and then never again.
