Tesla Wasn't enough..

His Next Hit Single "Rocket boner" Album Cover

Tesla Founder Elon Musk Explores the Venture to Make Lighter, Cheaper Satellites for the purpose of making the whole world stay online..According to an interview done by WallStreet Journalist, Musk is in talk on collaborating on a project that Basically makes small, low-cost internet satellites that provide affordable internet to everyone on the planet.

Alright Tech boner kill time :

Before you get all excited about the news here's what they don't put on the headlines,Elon Musk’s participation isn’t certain. The people familiar with the matter cautioned the venture is in its formative stages, This is just "in talks" & cannot be confirmed until the project is given a thumbs up from all sides, Plus the company in charge went bankrupt a few years back but somewhat back online with this project,

UPDATE:

It is finally confirmed that Elon Musk will Join the project after all..He confirmed it via twitter

SpaceX is still in the early stages of developing advanced micro-satellites operating in large formations. Announcement in 2 to 3 months.

Musk is in the early stages of collaborating with Greg Wyler, who founded O3b Networks and led Google's internet satellite venture until earlier this year.

Musk and Wyler have discussed launching around 700 satellites, each weighing less than 250 pounds, which is about half the size of the smallest communications satellites now in commercial use. The satellite constellation would be 10 times the size of the largest current fleet

Musk and Wyler apparently have plans to launch a total of 700 internet satellites into space. They want each of those satellites to cost less than $1 million to build and to weigh less than 250 pounds a huge undertaking, seeing as the smallest models these days cost several millions and weigh at least 500 pounds.

The smallest communications satellites now weigh under 500 pounds and cost several million dollars each. WorldVu hopes to bring the cost of manufacturing smaller models under $1 million, according to two people familiar with its plans

If the two do decide to go through with their joint project, they'll first have to face a lot of regulatory hurdles and raise $1 billion to spend for the development process

SpaceX-Dragon-V2.jpg

Falcon 9 rockets

Mr. Musk’s closely held Space Exploration Technologies Corp or SpaceX, likely would launch the satellites, though no agreement is in place. SpaceX has launched a dozen of its Falcon 9 rockets in the past five years and plans more than four dozen launches through 2018. In September, the company won a $2.6 billion NASA contract to develop, test and fly space taxis to carry U.S. astronauts into orbit.

Greg Wyler represents "WorldVu" a company he also founded recently, WorldVu is seeking a satellite industry partner to lend expertise to the project althought we won't hear from this if elon refuses to collaborate on this project

Greg Wyler , Google Satellite Employee

Wyler brought a similar plan to Google but hasn't come to fruitions, Although a  previous satellite Internet startup founded by Greg Wyler, O3b Networks, has faced technical problems with the first four satellites it launched , Although Wyler since has left the company even though he remains as a significant shareholder , He technically worked for Google only for a year before he jump ship to sail with Elon..technically.

Messrs. Musk and Wyler are considering building a factory to make satellites, One of the people said initial talks have been held with state officials in Florida and Colorado about locating the factory.

Interesting Project, One which we'd all love to see in action, Lets just hope this turns out to be more than just a hype, Leave your thoughts comments & rants down beloooow

eventually when launching satelites into space will become cheap

deep web will spread and it will be called DeepSpace

and only way to bring down the server would be to pretty much shoot it down

Good luck with that Elon. Not gonna happen, at least not without government controlling the entire thing.

Maybe if you get google involved and find some way to tell the world governments "fuck off"

Is there any way we can get this person to head the FCC??

Sorry, but only those who benefit the elite over the general public need apply. As with all top government positions.

Well before you get too exited remember about ping issues with satellite internet: You can forget about online gaming, video conferencing and you can expect really crappy phone service with 500-1500ms pings or worst.

Second even if we get MANY more satellites up there it would still either be relatively slow speeds (3-5mbps) or caps like we do currently otherwise things get overwhelmed fast.

And last you better have lots of storage for the winter and rainy days cause your speed will suffer if you don't get completely offline since the stuff is sensitive to weather, also you'll need to be good at realigning your dish or be willing to pay dearly and wait days after a storm clears to have someone align that shit back for you.

So yeah think of this as "Let's get internet to people in the middle of fucking nowhere around the world" not as a solution for us city folk with fancy optic cables since you'd think satellite internet as a bad fucking joke by comparison.

Glad we have our fucking priorities straight thousands are dying of Ebola in African and also starving to death and we want to give them the Internet. Why don't these rich fucks understand that technology (ie. Internet) doesn't feed people who are dying of hunger. The world needs a fucking reality check.

I think basic needs are more of a priority in impoverished regions. They can't get on the internet if their dead.

Internet isn't going to give them food, or access to clean water.

first off, knowledge is power. to anyone ranting about ebola and clean water. Musks skills/companies are focused on helping in what they are good at. this is amazing. let the food companies help with sending food, and let the already countless charites help with that.

a reality check would be any help is good help. If I want to help the poor, and im good at cooking, im going to donate my time at a food bank. if I dont have free time, but lots of money, im going to donate money.

this isnt for the poorest of the poor. thats like ranting about how can you give food stamps to people in homes while there is countless poor people in africa. you can because that's how you help people, in any way that you can.

The biggest thing is, theres lots of places where they are not starving, but education and such is lacking. Places that get all of our old phones and tech, they need internet to use it. I feel this will help poorer countries educate and help economies.

It's too bad that satellite internet is fairly terrible from my experience. However, if it comes down to no internet or satellite internet, the choice is pretty obvious. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Musk’s next mission: Blanketing the world with cheap internet access, via 700 low-orbit satellites

Generally speaking, satellite internet access is a horrible experience: It’s expensive, slow, and unreliable. Because satellites are expensive to build and launch, companies usually try to cover a large area with just a few high-altitude satellites — but a higher orbit means higher latency and lower bandwidth. Low-altitude satellite internet can actually be very fast, with acceptable latency, but you need a lot of satellites to cover the same area. Historically, of course, launching 700 satellites — at perhaps $50 million each — would be completely untenable. Now, however, with SpaceX slashing the cost of getting into space, combined with smaller, cheaper satellites (reportedly just $1 million each), a massive constellation of low-altitude satellites doesn’t sound quite so silly. WorldVu should be using the lower-frequency (12-18GHz) Ku band, too, which is generally more reliable than 26-40GHz Ka band satellite communications (those high-frequency waves get attenuated by rain, cloud, atmosphere, etc.)

elon-musk-in-the-dragon-v2-640x356.jpg

A few days ago, the Wall Street Journal reported that Musk was working with WorldVu, a satellite internet startup that has slunk out of stealth over the last few months. WorldVu was set up by Greg Wyler, which previously founded O3b — a satellite internet company that is also meant to service the “other 3 billion” people who don’t have access to the internet. This morning, in a couple of tweets, Musk confirmed that SpaceX is indeed working on a “large formation” of satellites, with an official announcement to come in “2 to 3 months.” (He doesn’t confirm that SpaceX is working with WorldVu, but it seems highly likely.)
