Before you reply, I talked to a friend of mine, who calmed me down, and I'm sorry.

 

I never meant to appear transphobic, but the issues brought up by this law are, in my opinion, worse than the issues that it would solve.

 

I am an egalitarian, have been all my life, and am all for the right to use the bathroom that is right for your gender, or gender identity.

 

I am aware people face harassment in the bathrooms for their identity or sexuality.

 

I am, however, worried about the women, or even men, who would be put in danger by this law, whether to harassment, or other more violent issues,

 

We should have stronger and more effective rules in place to stop the harassment before we create laws that will just increase the number of situations that people would be harassed.

 

This is the reason I am against. Not for any transphobic or homophobic reasons.

so, about 10-15 days ago, a law was passed here in Houston.

 

it explicitly allows men to enter the women's restroom, and it explicitly denies anyone the right to stop them &/or question them.

 

The mayor says it's a gay rights policy, but even the gays over here oppose it.

 

Now, here's where it gets crazy.

 

The mayor called FOUR separate petitions against the law, each with over 50K votes, invalid, when 3rd party lawyers found no issue with them.

 

The mayor called for subpoena on FOUR churches around the city, calling for the pastor's private information, and sermons. (4th amendment violation, anyone?)

As someone who lives close enough to Houston to hear about this law before I read this thread, No, it does not.

 

Then again, we already kinda can. no legal right, but guys generally wont stop us if the girl's restroom is full.

Pretty sure that this isn't a "allow men into the women's restroom" measure. It is probably a "allow transwomen into the women's restroom" law. The media typically uses it to make a big outrageous headline by phrasing it as "men in the women's bathroom".

 

So that wouldn't be a gay rights policy, that's a trans rights policy. I'd like to know which groups you are talking about. Even the HRC, a gay rights group that previously didn't care at all about trans issues, has apologized for overlooking them for the many years they've been around.

Isn't the point of separate restrooms for modesties sake? In which case anyone interested the same sex voids the whole point.

 

Also I just feel that your second comment regarding the pastors is rather the opposite mentality, restrict where they go but not what they say?

Picking and choosing is a pointless endeavor.

 

You and me are all allowed to say whatever we want. No problems there, it's not causing any problems.

 

The problem is bathrooms are segregated for a reason. It does not matter what gender you "identify" as, if you're a male physically then your options are the men's room or your house. That's it.
