so, about 10-15 days ago, a law was passed here in Houston.

 

it explicitly allows men to enter the women's restroom, and it explicitly denies anyone the right to stop them &/or question them.

 

The mayor says it's a gay rights policy, but even the gays over here oppose it.

 

Now, here's where it gets crazy.

 

The mayor called FOUR separate petitions against the law, each with over 50K votes, invalid, when 3rd party lawyers found no issue with them.

 

The mayor called for subpoena on FOUR churches around the city, calling for the pastor's private information, and sermons. (1st amendment violation, anyone?)

As a building inspector who has to enter all restrooms, dressing rooms, and shower/locker rooms, this kind of ordinance is humorous and sad. It's just a sign on a door - it wasn't stopping anyone before.

Surely if you are gay, you are fine going into the restroom of your own sex

 

And if you are transgender, surely you go into the toilet with the appropriate equipment, for example somebody with female genitalia will struggle to use a urinal, go by your sex rather than your gender

 

And if you do not identify with a gender, just go by the natural equipment you were born with, ie your natural sex

 

Its not hard....

As someone who lives close enough to Houston to hear about this law before I read this thread, No, it does not.

 

Then again, we already kinda can. no legal right, but guys generally wont stop us if the girl's restroom is full.

You don't wanna go in the mens room anyways, it's dreadful in there.

This is actually pretty accurate, they did in fact call four petitions against it invalid, and issued subpoenas on several churches in the area.

 

Plus what authority do you have to talk about this? it wont effect you, it will effect women like me.

Wait what? How do I have no authority on this? I live in Texas and transgender discussions go both ways. Female transgender people can enter male restrooms too....

Isn't the bill allowing anyone to go in any toilet or wash room they like? So, this would imply that women are allowed to enter the same public showers, toilet, whatever too. This isn't a case that only involves women at all. Therefore, the same issues that arise for a man, claiming to be transgender and using the women toilet room just to peep on them, can apply to a woman doing that to men. In that case, this isn't just apply to your "half the population", this applies to everyone.

However the media blew it up and the misinformation people are getting is absurd. So that's why I'm asking op to site his sources.

It does not matter what gender you "identify" as, if you're a male physically then your options are the men's room or your house. That's it.

 

I've used the women's room on several occasions - by mistake, necessity, or convenience. It's better than the alternative. I've encountered women using the men's room as well, I assumed for the same reasons. Unless I suspect they're committing a crime of some sort, I don't see any reason to bother questioning someone.

 

If someone doesn't feel safe around others because they have different genitals, I'd advise they seek therapy.

I am going to clear something up. I am, and have always been Egalitarian.

This, however, is not right.

I do not support this law on the grounds of privacy, as well as the way the mayor has handled opposition.

There is nothing any of you can do to change that.

There is simply those with me, an those against. Where do you truly stand?
