The image is UK, but the source talks about US states.

I think someone must have made a mockup UK site image, and that's what all the sites are using as a picture.

The title of this article is very misleading - the aim of the project is not to restrict internet access to only those who have signed up to the ID - it's to allow users to have a single government-issued login to access multiple sites - Government sites like healthcare at first, then they appear to be aiming to roll it out to 3rd party sites after that. source (same as cited in OP).

 

 

However, if the story indicated by the headline was shown to be the truth, that would be a legitimate and serious reason to leave or avoid the country associated with the law. The reason the Internet is so powerful and such a useful resource is that it allows people to speak with anonymity and with the ability to avoid being traced by governments if required. Granted, this also leads to the internet's downsides, but all in all it's better to allow anonymity than censor it. It is one of the last mediums left where anonymity is possible after all.

How long do you think it would take them to make it mandatory? All they'd have to do is go through the ISP's really. Granted if it's just a tool for verification and remains entirely optional, that's fine.

 

I can just see them making it mandatory "for public safety" as always.

Guess I'll start packing for Canada... I personally would rather get away from where I live. A population of 600 in my town and the people I live around are uh... Well lets say one house full has been arrested for the smoke and off smell in the little subdivision.. :(

Also get a big ass steel pipe on the mailbox, put it right through the center so that it looks like the mailbox is "on top" of the pipe, but in reality when they go to swing a baseball at it from the back of a truck, they break their arm lol

While I agree this is bad, the idea that a bunch of civilians with shotguns and handguns could withstand the military of the United States is rather silly. Tanks, armored vehicles, and fully trained infantry that is FAR better equipped and disciplined then any civilian militia could hope to be would absolutely fuck a bunch of pissed off civilians.

I mean fuck, forget all of that and just think about air. A drone up the ass doesn't even give you a target to shoot at, and the government has already used drones to kill American citizens in the middle east.

Actually, forget ALL of this, what do you do when they turn off the power? Suddenly your internet being monitored doesn't seem so bad.

You forget that throughout History, the majority of rebellions have succeeded due to the Guerilla nature of humans.

While the government could surpress all 300 odd million Americans for a while, they wouldn't be able to indefinitely, not 300 million to however many would support the government, like 6 people
