California should realize that forcing car companies to have a zero emissions car is the decision of federal government, not the state government. My point is this, there's no reason to make it illegal, no reason to put people in prison (in my state you get 15 years per plant if you get caught growing, minimum of 3 to 5 for possession), and ultimately ruin their lives for it. They haven't implemented them because of legal reasons (Delta 9 THC remains in the blood stream for about 30 days after smoking, despite being inactive after a few hours, so it's hard for them so say how recent the use was). Not to mention that couple of road studies have found that roughly 75% of people tested drove just as good if not better stoned than sober. Not to mention that driving whilst drunk is illegal and detectable, yet this doesn't discourage thousands of idiots from driving drunk every day.

 

Face it, Marijuana was made illegal for racist reasons (look it up, they needed a way to get rid of immigrants from Mexico in the south western states, many of whom smoked marijuana, this is known and stated historical fact). It remains illegal because the government can get money from taxes "to fight the drug menace". Many countries that have legalized have seen a dramatic DROP in teenage use of drugs, after a slight increase in teen use in the first few years after legalization.

 

Look, people want to get fucked up sometimes. Some people more than others. Some of us do so responsibly (while I used to smoke and drive when I was young and foolish, I no longer do so because it's not worth the risk, despite being relatively easy for me to do, probably from experience), some take idiotic chances and make horrible mistakes, but the fact is, you don't punish people for things they haven't done, simply because they might do it.

2. Actually that's not the job of the federal government, technically the state can pass that law, but it only applies to any business operating (meaning manufacturing) within that state. I don't have anything against people who smoke pot. 1. There isn't any solid evicence of those (the studies you have listed are HIGHLY contested). In fact Cannabis use has actually been shown before to be a cancer cell inhibitor (again, highly contested).

2. Sometimes it's nice to turn the volume down on your brain, I know it helps me with my ADHD from time to time. Slows my mind down to tolerable levels.

3. While this is anecdotal evidence and thus can't be proven, my sister had a boyfriend in high school who took the SAT's stoned out of his mind and missed 2 questions. He worked for C.E.R.N for a bit and is now a medical doctor.
