AT&T and Verizon says 4Mbps is enough [ISP WTF]

Jerakl

According to documents filed to the FCC by the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), broadband is already fast enough. The filing argued that 4Mbps (0.5 MBps) is fast enough to be considered broadband. NCTA represents both At&T as well as Verizon. The filing was made in response to the FCC considering redefining broadband to 10Mbps.

Uh oh, cue Logan! ISP WTF.

I don't live in the US, so I don't really know much about what's going on. I do however know that if this is allowed, people will start to follow.

I'm sorry if this is a repost :P

On a weekly basis they find new, creatively innovative ways to disgust me, and a good amount of others I presume.

Oh yes. Every week I hear something about US ISP's being stupid on The Tek.

Because i can download like 6gb in a week!!! HOW AMAZING

And 480p is good enough

And while we're at it, lets all go out and buy some Pentium D's

And might as well switch to dial-up

and drag that old pc out from the basement

and bend all the pins in a LGA1150 board!1

Cmon guys, i have had always 4mb/s and it is enough. You can watch youtube at 720p no problems and that is enough for most consumers. For a base plan i don't think is that bad, i've seen worse.

Or maybe living in a 3rd world country makes my expectations much lower.

it may be enough for a single youtube vid but most households have netflix, youtube, general browsing, and gaming going on all at the same time

Maybe 5 years ago.

Let's base what is broadband speed by a simple test. Open up a full HD Youtube video and open up a full quality twitch stream next to it. Then surf the web. If you can do all of that at the same time with no problem then your speed can be classified as broadband.

Yeah but a household with more than 1 person is able to afford faster internet. I was thinking for a single person with a low budget.

I have 85 down and it feels too slow.

This isn't the 90's AT&T / Verizon.

Try using a VPN 85 down should not be to slow, I have 100 down and loading websites is instantaneous, your ISP is probably throttling the sites you find slow
