GeForce GTX 980 starts listing in pricewatch engines (2560 Shaders, 160 TMUs, 64 ROPs)

BiG StroOnZ

LOL - okay so I just performed a search on GeForce GTX 980 at geizhals.at, an EU based price-watch engine. It started listing a GeForce GTX 980 entry. Few details are listed however there are some very interesting specs listed. it confirms that the card has 4GB graphics memory on a 256-bit bus. But here's more interesting info, the entry also lists the number of Shader processors at 2560 with 160 TMUs (texture memory units) and 64 ROPs.

The card would be dual-slot in configuration and has two 6-pin power connectors. Other then that noting is listed. There is a mistake in the listing though as it states GM104 "Maxwell" which would be GM204.

  • Chip: GM104 "Maxwell"
  • Memory: 4 GB GDDR5, 256bit
  • Shader unitsTMU / ROP: 2560/160/64
  • Fab: 28nm
  • Shader model 5.0
  • Interface: PCIe 3.0 x16
  • Slot: dual-slot
  • Power: 2x 6-pins PCIe

Tried searching, didn't see this exact post. Might be wrong.

if there's only 2 6-pin power connectors, this thing could be pretty efficient. even my 760 has a 6-pin and 8-pin

They'll probably have an 8gb or a 6gb card sometime too.

I've heard rumours of two 256-bit busses rather than a single 512-bit bus

I have that link as Source 2, more concerned if it has been posted here already on LTT.

Sorry, didn't see it

Holy shit that's going to be a fast card if the performance scales like the 750 Ti did compared to Kepler.

Possibly. Wouldn't make sense though. 3GB is the bare minimum you'd want, with some games just creeping over that at 4K. 4GB is what makes sense to have imo.

If it really has 4 times the performance of a 750Ti then this thing will be quite powerfull.

"pricewatch"

In English "price listing" means the listed price. There isn't a price listed. :P

Well potentially much faster than a 780 ti

unlikely. the 980 is supposed to be a replacement for the 780 only at this point. granted, the new color compression methods that are allowing the 256bit bus to come back have made the cards cheaper to produce. if its actually faster than the 780Ti, card makers will either mark up the prices and jizz in their pants, or the 780Ti will be dead in the water.

I still believe 28nm Maxwell is a go-between until 20nm comes around, much like the 285 on the Red side. the new color compression helps, but the 280 is still faster for memory bandwidth hungry games than the 285, and I think we will see the same with the Gtx 980 vs 780 until 20nm.

Well it's like 2 weeks before launch. These are the specs, i'll give you that.

This card IS faster than a 780ti. GK110 is big and Maxwell with a smaller die can replace it. They aren't going to make much of Gk110 after the 19th
