Yup, the guy paid 500 one year ago, new price now is about 300. Pretty sure it was used for chia (receipt has 10pc) and the same is happening as with GPUs, quite a few of these big drives on the used market right now as people are likely giving up.

I know it's for good, but having bought it as parity/redundancy for my unraid server I cannot avoid feeling weird for buying a $240 drive for 0 additional capacity 😄

Someone snatched a 16TB I was watching for $210, but it didn't mention warranty/receipt and on unraid bigger parity drive = more flexibility later.

I did something questionable. Replaced my beloved One X with a Series X, I finally got annoyed enough by the poor internal HDD and Jaguar CPU cores screaming doing anything to replace it. Ignore the fact that my TV is almost 10 years old.

My 1080 mini showed up, I’ve only done brief testing with it so far but it works fine, thermals are meh but it’s old paste and pads I’ll replace soon.

Something to note is the condition they say these cards are in, cosmetically it’s fine except the metal is all tarnished.

C2A9E231-D055-4578-90A8-23C6F8834E8E.thumb.jpeg.e03367ff557b963aa7ef6c45b8d9f1aa.jpeg

Thats pretty rough but that’s the worst of it, tarnX will take care of that though.

As well as new pads and paste it should turn out fine.

I mean 210$ for a 1080, I wasn’t expecting a flawless card.

Ill maybe repaint the backplate, it’s just kinda scratched up and going flat gray would probably look cleaner but that’s not a huge issue.

These were definitely stored somewhere humid, I don’t see any other damage anywhere on the pcb itself, but the tarnishing and condition of the stickers indicates a high moisture environment to me.
We’ll see how it holds up long term, I’ve seen cards in way worse shape though and haven’t had any problems with them. Considering all the faults are purely cosmetic and fairly minor for humidity damage leaves me fairly hopeful.

And here I thought I scored on my 1070 that I paid $170 for with a trashed fan and a bend in the backplate near the PCIe power connectors, though I guess my card is also near-mint cosmetically. Only real problem (aside from the still-janky fans) is previously mentioned oof on the corner of the backplate.

Bought a GTX 1650 on eBay, part number on the back of the card looks up to a 1650 GDDR5. Got the card, it's got a 6 pin power on it...odd but OK? Connect it and check, it's a 1650 Super. Same serial number and item that was pictured but I guess someone swapped the sticker on the card?? Ok cool, but actually did need a slot powered 1650 but I'll keep this, $120 for a 1650 super isn't awful. Maybe I'll set it to folding@home or something.

Speaking of 10 series cards, I think my $120 blower 1070 about 6 months ago was a good deal still. Had 'water damage' which was may have just been sloppy flux from the factory, it cleaned up with some distilled water and rubbing alcohol.

Agreed. That's one of the reasons I bought this - worked on several Latitudes (mainly the E6540) and was impressed with their build quality, reliability, and potential longevity since almost every component is quite easily swappable. These older Precisions especially are plain, simple, and powerful - no one's going to mistake it for a gaming laptop due to the lack of tiny hinges and RGB, but at the same time, unlike their new Precisions, it doesn't look like a generic ultrabook.

Typing this on a DELL Inspiron 8600 (2003). Still works. All original parts. A b!tch to work on tho, and VERY poorly designed.

My First  Audio set up, Audio sounds great. The base and lower mids is slightly too loud for me, so I might get an Equalizer for the stack, but not too bad I just prefer a more crunchy sound for music. For content like movies with Dramatic scores they are perfect though.

All together I would say a great budget build, also A DAC was not that necessary my PC DAC was about as good but I am still glad I got it

After waiting what feels like 4 months it's finally ready! My custom order for an EL34 tube amp is finalized.

Why is the noise floor so darn high!? My speakers are sensitive AF. They're 4" fullrange drivers. It sounds amazing but that noise floor tho.

Hey here's a news update.

Summary: don't make the same mistake as I. Don't trust an "artisan" to fabricate an amplifier for you. It's a nightmare.

So I traveled back and forth 5 times to the artisan's workshop who lives 60 km south of Paris. The traffic is really bad on weekdays and now on Sundays due to the vacation rush. Expect a 2-3 hour round trip on bad traffic with a 1€70 pay toll both ways.

As a customer paying a high price (1800€ ouch!) you expect the amplifier to work just fine out of the door. It was never the case. I had to go back to the artisan multiple times to fix the high noise floor (hum and hissing). The noise floor was attenuated everytime, but not enough. I still hear the hum. And it's still annoying as heck.

Last Sunday I returned to the workshop for the last time and told the guy "I don't want this amp, it hums. Keep your money I don't care anymore. I'm sick of driving to your workshop. I want to enjoy my weekends. I'll just buy a used Atoll amp for 250€ on the used market. It won't hum and it will sound lovely".  He told me: "You're never going to get the same enjoyment out of a transistor amp. I'll fix your tube amplifier and drive to your house next Sunday. The 100Hz hum comes from the AC current. I'll have to install diodes to convert the AC current into DC. It will be silent afterwards".

My emotions are just all over the place. He should have fixed the problem 2 months ago. There's no excuse for not using diodes to kill the 100Hz hum. It's lazy and stupid. He doesn't know how to effectively design an amplifier. I'm fed up. I just want to get an amplifier of any kind, set it up and relax. You can easily find a NAD, Yamaha, Atoll, Cambridge Audio, Denon, Pioneer or Sony amp on the used market with serviceable A/B amplification for 300€ or less. They just work. They sound fine.

About 6 or 7ish years.  Think the RX-V100D lasted 5 or 6.  Had a free Yamaha someone was throwing out before that for 4 years and before that I got a Sherwood 2 channel and a Panasonic powered sub for free from a house clearance my father and I done.  The Sherwood lasted about 4 years I think.  I still use the sub.  My speakers aren't much to write about either.  Two Panasonic's for the fronts.  (These came from my teenage hi-fi system I got when I was 13) two Aiwa for the rear and one of a pair of JVCs my uncle gave me for the center.  Both my cinema/music and my PC sound setups are all second hand parts.  I just swap out the dead stuff as I go.  I use a Presonus Audiobox 96USB for my PC with a set of second hand sennheiser 579s and some cheapy powered monitors

Got my Ayn Odin Lite! This thing is really solid, and it does what I needed to i.e. be a recent, pretty powerful Android device with an HDMI output which is basically nonexistent anywhere else.

Great build quality and performance, and it even has cellular connectivity that's not advertised anywhere. Quite a lot for $200 (paid $280 because I got the pack with dock, case etc which is still great value)

The M40 I've been using on my Mac Mini finally bit the dust (and my M65 has a dead scroll encoder), so I ended up getting a G305 K/DA. Absolutely love the design, if they made a G Pro or G Pro Superlight that looked the same I would totally buy one of those too. So far the only thing I don't particularly love about it is how loud the left/right click buttons are compared to my G Pro, but it's not the end of the world.

Portal Merch from the "By Fans, For Fans" unofficial Valve Merch Store. I just got two T-Shirts for now to check out the quality. The colors aren't as popping as I'd like them to be but other than that the Shirts feel nice. The Shirt itself is a Next Level Apparel Blank so that checks out. If the Quality holds up over many wash cycles then I may buy more from them since I really do like the Designs they have:

25$ per Shirt is not bad either.

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.
