The iPhone 4S is fixed and complete!

Spoiler

It's running iOS 9.2.1, is a 16GB black model, and yes I dumped blobs. It contains parts from three different 16GB 4S's:

Oscar's (living)

Todd's (dead)

mwalker's (unknown)

Oscar donated screws and a SIM tray, Todd donated everything but a logic board, battery, and a few screws, and mwalker donated a logic board and a battery. It's fully functional, and has an untethered jailbreak via jailbreak.me and BetterHomeDepot. Works well.

I'm considering making it an ice cream sandwich phone (make the back the opposite color of what the screen is) and buying a white back, but not yet

I could imagine, with something as large as that. Can't say i'd ever feel confident enough to do that kind of shit.

It's not a matter of confidence, it's more like that "Special kind of crazy" it takes and yes, it does take a certain kind of person to do it because it's so dangerous in the first place.

As for my new chip, it's doing great under my IceGiant cooler - Temps are good and working like a charm.

A beautiful Sony D-303 discman, from the time where a portable CD player was a satisfying all-metal 400gr piece with that gorgeous amber screen backlight.

Sold as defective, wouldn't play discs, but a couple hours and some adjustments got that sorted. Unfortunately won't take battery power so I'll have to try and fix that too, but being able to run it from DC in is already great. Sounds excellent, that was apparently renowned for having one of the best DACs/headphone amps at the time of release 31 years ago in 91. Bonus points for the optical out.

Curved, 16:9, 40"+ panels.  And something ideally 2000-3000r.  And obviously 2160p.

Instead, the market has a fetish for putting curved on useless 24" panels (where it make no difference at all) and making 49" panels are are height-wise, HALF of a 55" 16:9.

Overall, I rate this meal 6/10, much to improve

The ELV station is soldering/desoldering, desoldering is swappable for hot air but flow too low to be useful on anything but the tiniest thing. Great for the other 2 though.

For portable use I've got a TS80/pinecil that's just fine.

All that stuff that was purchased over 10+ years as needs came and I tend to nail the "getting stuff that's good enough but not overkill" compromise pretty good. Not going to just buy the whole pro line workbench when I can get something that costs a third and will do just fine for my purposes, I'd rather get an extra tool that will be occasionally useful even if not really justifiable otherwise.

Basically the more I'm going to need from it the higher end I go, and I have a bunch of almost-junk that's still good enough for the one time a year I'll use it.

Also most of it needed to be portable / able to travel abroad with

only flaw is the monitor power button has failed and you have to hold it, but that’s an easy fix

One other thing you have to do is either get a power saver or a more modern power supply as those original C64 power supplies are prone to fail and send the wrong voltages to the system frying one or more chips in the process.

Yes, it’s a descender, but also a fall arrest device which means it can easily go up the rope and brake when going down or taking a fall. That makes it ideal for solo climbing where I can rig the rope from the top and securely climb up and do the climbing practice while climbing partners are unavailable. In climbing world that technique is called top rope solo.

Bought some pretzels and Jerky from Jerky.com. I should have it in about 2 days. Jerky.com has a good variety of Jerky incase you're like me and sick of that Jack Links crap.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
