Makes the TIE Fighter pilot helmet I assembled seem like a Duplo set. At least you know you'll get good mileage out of this one!

I just finished this at 2200 pieces, and that was a chore!

out of interest.  what CRT was it you got with your C64C the other day?  Could you not hook the DC up to it?

It’s a Magnavox model 80 5115, and it does not have an RCA input, it’s just meant for the c64/128 with its little din video connector

I bought another project.

A thinkpad X300, and micro sata to msata adapter, and an msata ssd

The x300 is such a conflicting thinkpad within thinkpad nerd circles, similarly aged machines in different series are way more expensive, though the x300 is a vastly more high end machine from 2009. While the X200, SL300, also filled in the other sort of product lines for an ultraportable at the time, the X300 was a 3-4000$ ultra thin laptop with a pretty good 1440x900 resolution display, minimal compromises on I/o and thermals, it’s a very nice thinkpad if you like the late core2duo era.

I mean look at it:

F9D44073-987D-4E8B-A5EE-24FD6B0E0B15.thumb.jpeg.9a185db952bfe4a2711d643986b2ecd8.jpeg

this is 2009’s finest offering, it’s still pretty clean by todays standards

now these are great machines but there’s a reason why they’re so cheap, why nobody wants them, and why they’re kind of a pain today

its not the micro sata, that’s fine

getting 8gb of ddr2 is near impossible but that’s just cost prohibitive

there is one cpu choice, the SL7100, and it’s soldered but that’s not a big deal since the 10w tdp is important for good thermals anyway

no, it’s this:

3D48D0FE-91D5-4888-8253-F15ABA04FA4D.thumb.jpeg.4f8f0a245db5edfa3f4dd479cfcc4c75.jpeg

they peel

lenovo did the same damn thing IBM did in 1995 with the 701c, where they thought it was a good idea to put a rubberized coating on everything for some unknown reason, it looked cool I’m sure, but now it renders these machines sticky dust magnets

And much like why every 701c left is encased in glass in a museum because touching it would ruin it, the X300 is a daunting task of acetone and patience to make look clean again

but I’m gonna do it and it’s gonna be great

im Not gonna go for 8gb of ram, that is several hundred dollars these days and I already have an 8gb T61p in storage, I don’t intend to actually use this machine much after I’m done with it

Bought this off a mate. InWin Chopin, AMD Ryzen 2400G, ASUS A320I-K motherboard & Kingston 120GB Sata M.2 for $170. No idea what I am gonna do with it, but i'll slap some ram in it, add a wifi/bluetooth card & play around with it.

Had both of these on a layaway near my work for the last couple of months.  Finally paid them off today.

PXL_20220511_101842678.thumb.jpg.10eb5092b9213ffa0d1b253b9c65b1e4.jpg

SNES is a PAL model it came with one controller, RF lead and the power brick.  The Small one on the right is a Gameboy Pocket and just came as it was.  Both have a years warranty so won't be attempting any mods yet.  SNES should look good on my 14" CRT 😁 I'm very pleased.

(I'll do more pics once I'm home, in the retro thread)

I had the play-it-loud gameboy in that color.  So looked the same, but was as thick as the original gameboy.

What's the difference?  Cause they got a 'play it loud' gameboy at CEX near me but they want like 100 quid for it

play-it-loud was the original "variant" of the gameboy.  Full size, various colors.  Then pocket came out.  Then color--which I had a lime green one of those.

The big difference between the clear Pocket and the PIL is the thickness of the device--which in the PIL case is identical to the original.

Bought a 4tb Ultrastar drive I thought was used - but turned out to be new old stock. That was a nice surprise, hooking it up expecting several years of uptime but instead seeing 0 sectors written, 0 flying hours, 1 start/stop. I'd say $50 for a brand new datacenter drive isn't half bad!

Sweet.  I did some digging after asking you the question and the White one they have in CEX is the rarest of those Play it Loud GBs as they were only released in Japan and Europe.  I got a few things i could 'chop in' for it so may grab it tomorrow

Nice!

I Swapped a lot of my Nintendo stuff for "more rare" versions back several years ago.  Top loader NES.  SNES mk2.  Grape N64 (not atomic purple).  Acid Green (not jungle green), Grape and Gold N64 controllers.  Platinum GCN with Plantinum GBA player.  NES-Classic GBA-SP.  Zelda DS-Lite.  But I did get rid of my gold GBA Pokemon edition.

Just picked up this bad boy at Microcenter on sale for $1,299.99 (HP OMEN 17-ck1111nr); along with a new mouse (White Roccat Kone Pro) and Alienware laptop carrying backpack.

20220512_185424.thumb.jpg.1625375746c6d0332dfca986a9d4ccbf.jpg

Specs:

  • 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700H 1.7/3.5/4.7 GHz Processor
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6GB GDDR6
  • 16GB DDR5-4800 RAM
  • 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 Solid State Drive
  • Microsoft Windows 11 Home
  • Multi-Format SD Media Card Reader
  • 10/100/1000 Network
  • Wi-Fi 6E (2x2)+Bluetooth Combo
  • 17.3" Full HD (1080p) IPS Micro-Edge Anti-Glare Low Blue Light 144Hz Display

Been installing software and programs/apps right now and getting familiar with Windows 11, but so far it flies. I'm coming from a 4.4GHz i7-3770k Ivy Bridge / GTX 1660 Ti / SATA SSD... so I'm quite astonished at how much tech has progressed (speed wise).

If you guys want pics of the boxes just let me know.
