Did your interest for technology came from your parents?

Sort of, but not in a way one would think. When I was a wee lad, my family was poor. We didn't have much in the ways of cutting edge technology. It wasn't really their faults, (dad was laid off, mom was working an "ok" job, but lots of student loans, 3 kids to feed, etc, etc)  we were just in a rough time. But when I did get my hands on tech, I couldn't get enough of it. Like the original iPod blew my god damn mind. So did flip phones. And pc's, of course. This fascination turned into a bit of an obsession when we were better off than before, and could have some of these amazing technologies. And now that I can get these things for myself, I do. And whether or not I can actually afford some of these things for myself, I love following the advances in technology and learning and seeing whats new out there. I find tech very exciting.

I feel that my parents had nothing to do with me getting interested in computers. My dad supports me a lot in my interest in computers and encourages me to keep being interested in them. My mom is kinda a different story. She does kinda support me on my interest in computers, but she always complains that I use the computer too much and forces me to do other activities. I get mad at her at that because Computers are my fucking life! When she makes me stop using the computer or punishes me by taking computer privaleges away, I feel that shes taking my life away. And that is why il never build a computer in her house(And if you are wondering, yes my mom and dad are seperated and they have been for about 80% of my life with my mom living in NYC manhattan and my dad living in New Jersey).

Well, my dad was a PC enthusiast when he was younger and he has maintained this culture of self built desktops in the house. Now it is changing with laptops and such and it's now kinda my job to defend self builts. And I guess my interest in other tech sprung from that, they really didn't have a bigger say in that. I'm probably the only space buff in the house.

Nope. My mother is a complete technophobe- she fails to understand that computers have more uses than for surfing the internet, receiving emails and writing word documents-and being on the internet and not looking at the news is a waste of good time.

My dad is a bit of a techie, but the apple fanboy in him can't help but try to explain consistently why an apple desktop is better than a pc of equivelant pricing - I have managed to partially save him from the fanboyism however.

Not really. Unless you count the fact that my parents got ripped off for a crappy PC and I wanted a better PC so then i found Austin Evens and it went from there.I think I found Linus when Austin and Linus did a giveaway together (not sure)

also dad has done small things like added more ram to laptops and stuff like that. But they are quite supportive e.g. they have asked me to build them a computer for their business even though i havent built a computer from scratch yet for myself but they have confidence :)

My dad knew enough about technology to be able to use it daily at work. Mum knows bugger all about anything tech related. My love of computers and technology most likely came from when I was in intermediate school (I was about 12), a couple of buddies and I disassembled a PC (completely unsafely, mind you, it was dead, we were interested in the innards), and we decided to each try to put it back together before it was binned. After then, I was fascinated by anything PC related, but I was always too lazy to learn anything about it, and had no money to go about building my own PC. Until late last year (I was 18 by then), I finally had the income to save for a custom PC, and then I started learning about anything and everything PC that I could, primarily hardware, which is what I'm more interested in, versus software. I started watching Linus' videos, and I learned so much. Tomorrow, hopefully, my PC build will be complete, with the video card being the final component to be installed (besides my upgrade in RAM. Borrowing 4GB from dad's system til I can get my 16GB). It's been a fun ride, and I am far from knowing it all. I never will, but I want to learn all I can.

lol, seriously, my dad was totally against computers for some reason. but today he can't live without his laptop I gave him. My dad has only once bought me something Computer related and it was a Geforce 9500 GT from biostar. I guess it was his way of saying that he finally acknowledges that this is the path I have chosen. That card really had a rough life, I overclocked it like mad when it was mine, I gave it to two close friends (at different times) just to use in their rigs. My little bro used it for a while and I've used it in my second build for when friends come over. it retired only this year when I upgraded to the 680, everyone shift up one card and it ended up not having a rig so now it's sitting in my closet. (still working though) To this day that card is still the only thing my dad bought me that is computer related.

No. It was sorta self developed when I was 9 and really interested in the iPod Touch 2G and the iPhone 3GS :P then I looked at other products and as I have been getting older it's progressing. My uncle got me more in the computer side because of his computer business he owns and it's just gone on from there :D

My parents aren't that tech savy.  It started when I wanted to play CoD world at war and my then current PC couldn't handle the game.  I started making upgrades to that PC, and then I decided to build my own PC, and now I've kept my interest in tech.
