He obviously meant teaches them "to" do it, as opposed to "how" to do it.

Either way, it's a stupid thought. Just thought I would clarify.

But even still, no one's going to become a full-blown hacker because Watch_Dogs made it look cool.

He needs a right slap in the face.

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.

Okay, so you watched the video and just failed to understand it.

Teaching is the key word here. It isn't teaching you shit. It isnt teaching what's in those quotes. Like saints row isn't teaching you to do drugs, and GTA isn't teaching you how to rob a bank and mortal kombat isn't teaching you decapitation techniques. You even said it in the quotes you took.

*sigh* I knew some right wing idiot (not getting into politics, both sides are retarded and i'm leaving it at that) would say something and my parents would hear about this game. Good grief. I mean i've moved out and i'm living with my boyfriend, but holy crap. My parents follow this idiot like he really know's what he's talking about and it's sickening. It's actually one reason I wanted out of the house, I was tired of every conversation dissolving into political banter or the comment of something I said "you sound like a socialist" like.. really... just shut up.

I feel like lots people just don't know how to parent anymore. Lots of parents noways just go to one extreme or another. Super strict makes the kids do everything they never could do once they turn 18, and extremely nice and essentially spoiling your kids is just as bad if not worse.

I am no parent no so I don't have a lot of ground to stand on but seriously this is getting ridiculous.

Yep. And he would be alot better off saying "Watch_dog teaches kids THE IDEA of hacking" that would make alot alot more sense than just saying saying "watchdoges teachs kids how to hack"

The guy just seems "anti technology" which is pretty stupid. Isaac Asimov once said "If knowledge causes problems it is not through ignorance that we solve them.". This is literally the exact situation that the quote is supposed to be referencing.

Teaching to hack (and all the things that come after). Like "Hey guys, invasions of privacy are alright, just have a good reason!" I don't particularly like Glenn Beck because he does like to say things in a way that allow places like Polygon to misquote him for their own advantages. Video games don't teach you to do drugs or rob banks, but without a conversation from parents to set them straight, you're relying on instincts. It's even harder to have a conversation about spying and privacy breaches because many people just don't care enough about it, or they don't see problems with its expansion.

These are the real issues. The fact that people are alright with throwing labels at the guy and ignoring the issues by using him as a comedic punching bag kinda just proves his point.

But watch dogs doesn't make it worse or better. Invasion of privacy isn't alright, nor is killing someone, nor is stealing BUT, a video game about it isn't going to make it better or worse.

But to put it simply, [most] kids can't hack. And if they get very far, it will backfire in there face.

If you really want something breached, the reality is, it's not that hard (with the knowledge). A quick search on the deep web and a bitcoin or two later, you'll have the info you need or the site you want having a ddos attack on it. But, most kids aren't as interested and weird as me, and would think it's simply easy enough to go into CMD and hack an ipod or some shit, they may even get to a virtual machine, then realize it's way above there heads. With the lack of computer knowledge that so much of society have, I doubt they will get further than Command prompt. It's not the same concept as violent video games, but it will end up working the same way, even if your parent's don't talk to you about it. Fortunately, every persons data isn't "one click away".

I agree. The thing with Watch Dogs is that it is introducing the invasion of privacy, as a general concept, to a wider audience that might not know how to address the issue. They may not have formed an opinion at all, so it becomes a conversation topic that they might not be comfortable with. Elements like theft or murder are easier to wave off, whereas something like spying/surveillance might fall into a moral gray area for them, especially if it is (relatively) positively portrayed in a video game.

I would hope Beck understands that correlation does not equal causation. I took it like "If these studies are showing that violent acts are being committed by people who were exposed to violent video games, what will the studies show about an acceptance of a surveillance state in the future?" If you must know violence, know that it is evil. It's the connection that spying/surveillance is violence that's been absent from the discussion. The goal is for family and friends to actually have that discussion and understand violence in all its forms, and practice what they preach. :)
