Are we spoiled by HD?

Mooshi

Console fanboys need not apply, 720p is not serious beans. And 1080p is pretty standard now.

So, the question. Do you feel like we're too accustomed to 1080p that it doesn't feel all that special anymore? I remember years ago when 1080p was the buzzword of the week and HD channels as well as TVs were being marketed to death. Looking at where we are now, I feel 1920x1080 no longer feels like "HD", if anything, I kinda feel like it's standard def. Or what I consider standard these days.

This kinda bothers me in a way because my monitor is dying and I'm actually having second thoughts on quality replacements because they are 1920x1080 natively, my current monitor has a res of 1920x1220 - dat 16:10 I could get a generic Korean 1440p monitor, but I'm not sure if I'm very comfortable dropping 400 dollars on a risk with a crappy stand and limited inputs...LG, Samsung, Dell..release 2560x1440 monitors at reasonable prices already so i don't have to ship something from Korea. - This isn't even getting into 4k which is on a whole other plane of existence all together.

So what do you guys think? Does 1920x1080 feel too normal now?

1080p IS normal, 720p is pathetic!

....I'm waiting for 4k.....

1080 is normal, its also all you really need unless you got super bad eyes and stick your face to the screen :P tho i would not use lower than 1080 anymore.

I haven't really experienced HD pc gaming yet because im a member of the 1600x900 master race. And i only run native rez.

But when my dell ultrasharp arrives i suspect i'll be spoiled shortly after that. And want 4k

I've got a 1080p tv but since the programs are not broadcasted in HD i don't really count that as the full experience.

I'll probably get this nice 27" LG monitor with an AH-IPS panel anyway even though it has a slightly lower res than current monitor. But yeah, some of the resolutions, I give it like another 2-4 years before we see the next jump in HD to be the new norm.

I used to think that 720p was really good, but when I began to edit with a 720p composition in After Effects I ccould really see how much better the resolution jump from 720p to 1080p is. I mean after all you have double the number of pixels from 720p to 1080p.

Personally I don't care if something is 720p like a tv show, however when it comes to games must be 1080p!

I can relate to this if you're talking about TV, it just looks normal when it used to look like something from the future. If you're talking about gaming I can't, I have an old system and I can only run games at 720p or even lower depending on the game, even when I turn it up to 1050p (max res for monitor) just on the title screen it looks amazing to me.

i'm a potato

I would say yes, we are spoiled by HD. When I was younger all we had was 'SD' or 480p on everything from VHS' to DVDs and It was considered amazing quality if the audio didn't cut out every 5 minutes or you didn't get any 'snow' or distortions. Now after using a 1080p monitor for gaming and movies for years I can't go back. I've tried playing 'SD' movies on a 1080p screen and it looks horrible. Anything below 720p has become unwatchable to me.

Use a proper upscaler and itl be at least the quality of standard 720p stretched to 1080.

I remember when I got my first PS3 and watching a bluray on my 1080p Sharp TV man what a difference I noticed, it took me about a month to adjust from SD-1080p. My eyes hurt so bad , but after that it was pure gravy. I actually have a hard time watching SD now, it hurts the eyes a bit

I have some 480p Top Gear eps..and I practically have to force myself to watch those instead of simply re watching the eps I have in HD.

4K seems awesome, but it will have the same story as 1080p, the enthusiast class will be early adopters(That one friend we have that always has the newest tech), but the general public will hold off until we see the pricing be a bit more realistic.
