I don't know what video you watched but the one I watched was filled with assumptions, half truths and distorted analysis of research data.

I guess when it's in a joking matter/nobody will be offended and it's not excessive but we try to keep it to a minimum.

Ha, I actually read about that ice water study a while back,

awesome to see it pop up again! :D

In general I probably use comparatively many vulgarities

(well, obviously I can filter myself if needed :D ), but

less in anger than just as part of my daily vocabulary.

I have also made the curious experience that some English

vulgarities (for instance "fuck") carry quite a bit less

weight for me as a non-native English speaker than for

native English speakers, as I discovered when conversing

with some Canadian relatives of mine a while back.

In general I don't really care about social standards

for "acceptable" and "non-acceptable" vocabulary, unless

I'm in a social context such as a job interview, stuff

like that. In those situations, I'm more pragmatic than

principled about it.

As for swearing on the forums: In general we have been

rather lenient about it. What is certainly not tolerated

is attacking somebody with profanities (or without profanities,

before somebody goes off and tries to exploit some loophole

in my statement).

Aside from that, it depends on context. Just... don't

overdo it, show restraint. ;)

As said, it depends on context. I'm not going to give anyone a

blank cheque for using profanities on the forums. :P

In general, if the profanities are used in anger, then no,

it's most likely not OK. If it's a very strong expression of

enthusiasm, we're more likely to let it slide (for instance,

a complimenting "Fuck, this is awesome!" in a build log, stuff

like that).

Swears or "bad words" don't exist, it's a myth adults tell children. Words are just words, it's man that gives them a meaning. On their own, they are simply sounds coming out of your mouth,

Example, saying the English word "car" aloud sounds like "Kar" which is slang for gentleman's sausage in Albania. See how pointless labeling a sound out of your mouth is? Only prudes in the English speaking nations can take a word that rhymes with "duck" and get so buttflustered over it.

As the late George Carlin would say, "It's bullshit and it's bad for ya!"

I know women who swear more than some men. My fiance swears at times and she has one of the daintiest voices and a cute smile. I used to say stuff like this a long time ago and realized how sexist it made me look. Both genders should know how to act according to their setting. But, when it comes to a casual setting..words are words. No reason to demonize a few just because a few loonies decided they have a bad meaning. I mean, the only reason people cringe when they hear a certain word is because they were forcefully conditioned that way. If you heard two foreigners swearing in their own language, you wouldn't know the difference between a greeting and an insult if you didn't know the language, now would you?
