13700KF Core Temp Throttling [100C], while having 2 Figma windows opened

  • Windows 11 Pro
  • MSI Z790 Tomahawk Wifi
  • Intel i7 13700kf [Air Cooler AK620]
  • 2x16GB Corsair 6400Mhz (XMP on)
  • 6950XT MSI
  • 1TB SSD
  • Corsair RM1000X
  • Case: Lian Li Lancool 216,
  • Airflow: 3 intakes and exhaust each
  • Bios Version: H.20 (29/12/2022)
  • Ambient room temp: 25'C

I just build my PC recently. Everything seems fine on gaming. I play dota 2 and just finish Witcher 3, I played for about a month and nothing bad happened.
First throttling happened when i tried to install a repack apps, fans went so loud and when i checked on HWInfo, it shows that the core temp went up to 100C. I force close the installation. I search online and many has said that its a normal temp to have when trying to unpack apps.
Today i open Figma, and when i try to duplicate some UI from the community site, it happened again [The image above shows the temp when it happened]. And a CPU throttle warning shows up in HWInfo64.
I read that Figma is GPU intensive, and i wonder why is this happening.

If you're hitting 100c you're doing bad.

What CPU Cooler do you have?

And are you sure it's installed right?

If the temps used to be fine, how are ambients? Are the temps persisting when leave the sidepanel open and breathe?

What PL do you use ? Most boards have insane max clocks and PPT, put it back to say 200W max

System : AMD R9  7950X3D CPU/ Asus ROG STRIX X670E-E board/ 2x32GB G-Skill Trident Z Neo 6000CL30 RAM ASUS TUF Gaming AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX OC Edition GPU/ Phanteks P600S case /  Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 cooler (with 2xArctic P12 Max fans) /  2TB WD SN850 NVme + 2TB Crucial T500  NVme  + 4TB Toshiba X300 HDD / Corsair RM850x PSU

They have PL1 and PL2 set to 288W, but they only peaked at 171W so far in HWiNFO.

I'd consider re-mounting the cooler and working on providing the chip better airflow.

AK620
the moment i build this PC, i apply the thermal myself, and stress test both CPU and GPU and everything seems fine.

its necessary to re-apply thermal paste in doing so right?

can you elaborate on the providing the chip better airflow?
i use Lian Li Lancool 216, stock fans on the front (2x140), stock exhaust on the back, with additional 2 intake and 2 exhaust at the bottom (on top of PSU) and on the top for exhaust. All fan speed set to automatic and PWM. i crank up a few extra power on the bottom intake fans to make it more of a positive airflow i guess. i might be wrong

Could it be BIOS problem perhaps?

Won't' be a BIOS problem.

Thermal Paste should last years, so that shouldn't be it.

That's a good case for airflow, so it should be okay.

The AK-620 should be more than enough to handle that CPU, unless you're actually feeding it 288W

whats your suggestion?

My first thing to check:

Make sure both fans are pointing the same direction on the cooler.

Also:  Try turning off "overclocking" in the motherboard, see what that does.

Last thing to check:  Pull the cooler off, and make sure the plastic pad's off, and that it was installed right.

if the temps are worse after you cleaned your case, then that would be pretty weird, how's the fan speed on the cooler when you reach hot hot? if it's near 100% it might be thermal paste, unless it's just expected behavior from some CPU intensive task (all core 100% load can cause this kind of CPU to get this hot)
