Ryzen 5000 cpus receive possibly permanent price cuts

Helpful Tech Witch

Summary

Ryzen 5000 cpus receive price cuts.

prices stand as follows (BestBuy, usd)

5600x- 230$

5800x- 360$

5900x- 450$
5950x- 600$

5600g- 220$
5700g- 310$

Quotes

Quote

Spotted by WCCFTech, AMD's Ryzen CPUs have dropped in price at Microcenter, Newegg, Amazon, and BestBuy. Prices have gone down by a significant amount too, between $60 USD and $170 chip depending. So far this seems to be true for the United States and the UK, so hopefully we'll see this discount spread further across the globe with a little time.

My thoughts

Yes!

While this does kinda undermine the idea of getting a 5600g to save money, even with a gpu, this is great if it’s permanent.

Possibly a change because the 5800x3D is coming out soon?

Seems a logical move, since 12th gen Intel AMD isn't competitive at all anymore, for $300 you get a 12600K *or* a 5600X which is only worse on everything, for $450 a 12700K but not even a 5900x etc.. Okay the Intel mobos are more expensive, but on total budget Intel is still always ahead.

Not even talking about budget build <$200 where AMD don't offer anything at all, only niche they have left is the 5000G series as Intel iGPU are still quite bad

The 5800X3D is too late and too lonely to change that, not even sure it'll ever exist as its release seems pushed/on hold for an indefinite period, while AMD wants to speed up Ryzen 7000/AM5 release by as early as Q3.

Can't verify if UK pricing is down since I haven't found a good way o visualise it yet. pcpartpicker charts are a mess.

I think two main reasons are: 1, it is getting towards the end of its marketing life, and 2, Increased competition from Intel. I don't think the 3D version is at all significant in this, as they'll be a top end priced unit in limited volumes for those that have to have it.

I guessed that as it’d probably slot into the old 5800x price slot, meaning it’d be stupid to keep it at the same price, plus they have competition so it’s logical to drop around the lineup

If that were so, I'd expect it to happen on the release of the 5800X3D. Doing it before doesn't make as much sense. I assumed the '3D would be priced somewhat above regular version since it is a premium product.

I would rather wait for the release of Ryzen 6000 and then get a 5000 series CPU.

Then the prices will be even lower.

Always a question, do you get the latest and greatest, or the older but still good for less? For my use cases I found myself getting more value closer to leading edge than cheaper older gen. The '3D could be interesting as it would be my 2nd highest cache consumer CPU if I got one, and some specific workloads would really benefit from that. But I doubt it'll be cheap enough for me to seriously consider.

The 5800x3d is already starting to ship to distribution channels. So yes, it exists, and you should see it launch by end of the month.

Was looking at it since months, but now missed that news with ongoing Ukranian crisis focus...

Has "MSRP" price been given ?

2nd price drop from what I have seen.

not sure if it's quite tech news, but I guess its nice to have some tech components to become cheaper.

Unlike certain other components... while it's sort of improving, but not by much... 😞

Pile of salt on standby, but just saw a rumour that might or might not fit in with this.

https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-rumored-to-launch-ryzen-5-5500-5600-and-ryzen-7-5700x-this-month

Claims 4 new CPUs to be launched "this month": 5500, 5600, 5700X, 5800X3D. We know about the last one so I'll skip that and focus on the other three.

5500 is 6c6t, like the 3500 was. 5600 is a lower cost 6c12t CPU than the 5600X. Likewise the 5700X is 8c16t cheaper alternative to the 5800X. I had wondered if AMD's yield was so good they didn't have any reason to offer the lower models value seekers like me would be after. I guess they have been saving those lesser dies for the last 16 months and are now going to offer a lower cost line to go against Intel's current offerings. If so, there will be less pressure on existing models to go down in price as much.

The 5600 or 5700X are the CPUs that would have made me buy Zen 3 desktop, if they would be available at launch. I'd guess the 5500 might be OEM only or limited market area.

5600 non-x could be nice if its any decent performer.

but it's not going to be good choices, unless price is a big factor.

not a great thing, more options could be nice in a wider price range, but if it doesn't...

not the best addition with minor differences, but if it can help reduce cost maybe its a bit good. (3D looks more interesting and Zen 4)

Quite awesome price cut for 5800X though. 5800X3D to come soonish. Can dream to see GPUs to go under MSRP at very least at MSRP for upcoming ones.

Funny to see how the recommended prices now match the street pricing here in the Netherlands. Hope that this will drive street pricing down even more

Using the pricing in OP and a couple of sample points suggests Alder Lake street price is slightly below 1k unit price, we can speculate on competition. I don't agree with the rumour source on pricing, but just eyeballing where it may fall based on current street pricing of existing models. Of course, street pricing is not static and we can only make a determination once we see them on sale.

5700X could go head on against 12600k. 8 powerful cores vs 6+4 arrangement.

5600 could sit somewhere in the non-k i5 offerings, which are also 6c12t unlike the k. I'm sure there'll be the usual arguments on price/perf once we have some numbers to go off.

5500 could go against the i3 models, 4c8t. All else being equal, 6c6t should be more attractive, but we do have architecture and platform differences.

Those seeking to optimise value should have some more interesting options "soon".

About half a year after Ryzen 3000 series was released you could buy an R5 2600X for $115 USD and an R7 2700x for under $200 USD (I think like around $160usd). Lets hope they get way cheaper when the next generation of Ryzen desktop CPU come out.

Considering the 12600K performance ranges from similar to significantly better than the 5800X, I don't see the 5700X being a great deal unless it's significantly cheaper, maybe $220 or so would be a fair price.

The 5600 looks decent, if it costs the same as the 12400F, it could be a good alternative when combined with a cheaper motherboard.

IMO 4c/8t > 6c/6t, particularly in gaming, not having HT can cause some pretty big performance issues in some games, as the i5 9400 and 8400 have shown. Considering the stronger single-thread performance is on Alder Lake, my guess is that the 5500 will perform about the same as the 12100 in multicore while being 10~15% slower in single, so I can't see the 5500 being a good alternative to the i3 12100.

But still overall should be a decent improvement to their current lineup, just not enough and kinda late imo.
