WWDC is a developer conference, not a hardware release. Sometimes they announce hardware, usually they don't. He even says in the video "WWDC usually isn't the place where Apple releases hardware".

Looks like they changed the title from "Is apple out of ideas?" to what it is now pretty fast.

Linus has discussed this multiple times. LMG is focused on delivering quality, entertaining content, and largely, I think they deliver on that promise. However, Linus has said that these titles, which he actually doesn't even like himself, markedly improve the click rates. He's running a business, a content business at that, so he has to get eyeballs on the videos. If this is what it takes to do that, it's an acceptable evil, and ultimately means more and better content for everyone.

 

I find the titles stupid, as well, most of the time, but I care about the content not the title.

That's mostly true now, but hasn't always been the case for Apple. They've done some truly innovative things. Unfortunately, that innovation seems to have lived and died largely with Steve Jobs.

 

That said, the M1 is pretty damn innovative, especially considering no one else is within years or bringing their own competitive ARM silicon to market. And, while perhaps not quite "innovative" things like the M1 powered iPad Pro are still amazing devices that, again, have no real competitor, and won't for a while.

 

It would just be nice if that same spirit was injected into all their products. Things like the iPhone line have mostly become boring barely even iterations on the same tired design, mostly just to optimize the supply chain and squeeze as much profit out as possible.

I know, I've heard them say it before. Still don't buy it considering other major tech channels are able to pull the same numbers, if not better, without the ridiculous titles. Look at MKBHD.

MKBHD audience is way more broad (Apple focused, yes, but less savvy). LTT does actually provide a healthy dose of weird, niche and specialized content that in no was, shape or form appeal to said broad audience (Custom water cooled desk, Camera stuff, hw modding, server infra/builds, etc)

So… you’re saying a more tech savvy audience is more easily fooled by clickbait than general audiences are. Doesn’t really make sense to me.

The people I know who work at Apple are all basically "optimizing" things - think getting 2% more profit out of the App Store - as opposed to working on new things. 

People at Apple working on App Store marketing would never be used to make “new things” in the first place. I doubt you know any actual developers or engineers there as they’re under strict NDAs.

Clicky titles are to attract less-tech savvy audience to click in. Compare these titles:

Let's be honest and say that normal folks will most likely not click on the latter titles, having no knowledge of those stuff in the first place nor do they really care. The titles are not lying, they are just short on details, the whole point is to entice you to click in and hope you stay throughout the video. 


TBH I watched both MKBHD and LTT videos but I found MKBHD's to be quite boring and superficial. Most of his videos are just reveal and talk about the specs without much comparison or discussion. His review of M1 iMac has 0 benchmark. His apple tag has not much real world testing vis-a-vis Mac Address's. I usually watch his video as he tends to get the latest and summary of the specs lols, but LTT videos tend to have an educational value (subjective conclusion I know).

I get not liking Apple, but this is just silly.

Everything in the tech space is just different interpretations of ideas that already existed.

$2 Trillion does not happen just because a bunch of people think it's cool tech.

You seem to be hot-taking for the sake of it... there's no reason to call someone making an ecosystem choice idiots. You're repeating the same substance-devoid anti-Apple tropes that Youtube comments sections are filled with by people who never even pressed play. It's fine if you never want to touch an Apple device, but speaking as if you've used one with serious intent to evaluate before calling it mediocre and overpriced just makes people not take your viewpoint for anything more than lip service.

I like the news, looks like a couple of decent additions and opening up FaceTime is a step in the right direction. Hopefully the folks at Apple will get their heads out of their bottoms sometime soon and offer their services on Android and other systems natively. Apple's insistence on locking so many of their services to their devices has made them useless in many parts of the world. iMessage in particular is essentially worthless where I live.

Please, develop a mature approach to tech. You're like those people who called Microsoft "M$" twenty years ago. Apple isn't a font of non-stop revolution, but it has demonstrably been the source of a few major tech breakthroughs over the past few decades.

 

Take the iPhone, for example. No, Apple didn't invent touchscreen phones, or even capacitive touchscreen phones. What it did do, however, was create the first modern, consumer-oriented smartphone. I remember the smartphone market before then — your "consumer" choices were painful-to-use phones like the BlackBerry Pearl and Nokia N95. Ever had to choose your connection type every time you opened your browser or checked email? Yeah, that was Nokia's Symbian experience even a few years after the iPhone arrived.

 

Virtually every smartphone maker and platform had to rethink their platform as a result of the iPhone... including Google. Remember, the first Android reference device was a BlackBerry clone; the company (including Andy Rubin) knew it had to overhaul Android for touch after the iPhone launch event. I know it'll burn you to admit this, but the Android phone you have wouldn't exist as it is if it weren't for Apple.

 

Yeah, Apple is fond of walled gardens, and they have serious limitations. But here's a dirty secret: they're called gardens because they work well. Apple device users aren't "stupid," they're everyday people — they just want their phones and computers to get things done, and Apple gear generally does a fine job of that. They aren't groaning under a yoke of oppression because they can't change their default music app.

I use PCs at home, Macs at work as I prefer the ease of multitasking + universal copy/paste and airdrop without having to do anything but enable handoff. I bought my devices because I researched what the alternatives were and an iPhone, or a Mac, or an Apple Watch, met my needs best. What holds me into the ecosystem is that unlike every other set of products, it actually works together. And in my personal experience they have been as or more reliable compared to any other devices.

Yeah. I made the choice to go with an iPhone, not out of stupidity, desire to be "cool" because of a logo I erase half the time with a vinyl skin, or sheeple-ism, but because an iPhone did what I wanted better than an Android. And the things I miss out on with iOS are not the dealbreakers the omissions on Android are for me. For other people they are, so sure grab an Android if that's the case. 

It's fine to dislike a company and refuse to use their products, or just not find them appealing, but calling other people stupid because they don't share your subjective opinion is not the blistering take you think it is.

The only LMG channel at the moment that delivers actual quality is their Apple focused channel Mac Address. Everything else are either clickbait ridden titles, exaggerated whining, or ill-informed responses, or a combination of these three into one video.

Come back to me if you can show me a Wintel laptop that can match the M1 when it comes to power efficiency, or an Android tablet with the same tablet-optimized apps for both work and play, and still get 6+ years of software support.

 

Sure there are a lot of reasons not to like Apple, but to generalize that their users stupid is more of an ill-informed knee jerk reaction and is as dumb when years ago, a lot of people believed a hoax study which was a false correlation about Internet Explorer use and IQ. Would you actually call a college professor with triple PhDs or a physician with two specializations stupid because they use a Mac, iPhone, and iPad?

I remember what I was taught in tech support training many moons ago: always show people respect even if they're clueless with tech, because many of them are perfectly capable elsewhere. A doctor is a very intelligent person, but you wouldn't expect them to be experts at networking.

 

And that's what makes people like Dutch_Master so frustrating. There's an elitism that assumes people buy Apple gear because they either don't know better or are too lazy, as if you can't be a 'real' computer or phone user unless you're willing to sink weeks or months into learning the nuances of a platform. More often than not, people just want their tech to work well for everyday tasks, and Apple does that.

 

(Besides, there's a tremendous irony to that implication of laziness... lazy is buying whatever the cheapest PC or phone might be when you have the budget for more, not the Mac or iPhone.)
