why are cameras cases so heavy?

if you take just the electronics of a camera usually is pretty light

 

while the case of it, is made thick, with materials that do weight, even though there could be several other solutions that can offer the same durability with less weight, why?

Camera bodies use either lightweight plastics or advanced magnesium alloys to balance durability and weight, so I’d love to hear your “several other solutions” that would yield better results. Not to mention cameras are pretty light these days honestly. Have you ever actually held the internals of a DSLR or MILC or is this just your speculation?

Most cameras are a mix of plastic, carbon fiber and metals You’ll typically see aluminum, steel or magnesium used with some places having titanium. 

 

the largest weight behind the shell of a camera is often the cooling and batteries.

If a lens is attached, then the bulk of the weight can actually be all that glass... depending on the lens.

Durability.

 

Especially in the cases of higher-end cameras where they are expected to be used in professional-level environments where conditions may be unforgiving for electronics. Same when we talk about landscape and travel photography where adverse weather conditions may play a role.

I have taken apart a Canon Rebal xti.

The internals are pretty heavy. probably due to shutter and mirror mechanisms.

The prism is also another thing its pretty much a chunk of glass.

The casing is pretty much ABS or some kind of plastic.

 

Some other cameras.

a 7dmk2 has a magnesium body and weighs like 2 pounds.

I also use a GX85, which is a plastic/aluminum body that thing is light.
