Posted February 7, 2021 As you know there are mainly three kinds of speakers namely (a) bookshelf, (b) floorstanding & (c) satellite. I have used only satellite speakers all my life. I started with Creative & when that one died I purchased a Logitech. What kind of speakers do you use with your desktop ? People who have used all three types which one sounds the best ? Using only Linux since 2007. Not a single MS Windows or Mac client at home.

I have bookshelf speakers that blow away my old floor starting units, but I know that there are floor standing units that make my bookshelf ones sound like trash. People who have used all three types which one sounds the best ? I have an aging set of the Logitech z906 speakers, and I also had a pair of the Klipsh Promedia. They both sound just fine, but truthfully I feel headphones are just better for most pc applications these days. Dolby atmos works flawlessly on most headsets and produces a much better 3d effect than anything other than an actual atmos speaker setup. They muffle all the other noise so you aren't losing emersion to random sounds. So for me I think any of the three solutions you listed can sound good given it has a power sub in the mix. That is not as needed for good bookshelf or floor standing speakers, but it still does a lot to improve sound. I just think that when it comes to games, music, even movies being watched from a pc... that the headphones are extremely hard to beat.
 Posted February 7, 2021 My speakers are a 2.1 setup that's made up of a stereo set that's beige, and a subwoofer stolen from a 2.1 setup that's beige. The sub makes a great footrest. Getting it to work, though, that was a pain. For whatever reason, Realtek Audio Console doesn't support a 2.1 setup, but it does 5.1. So I got it working as a 5.1 setup except the subwoofer was the center speaker, not the subwoofer. I did some more things and now it's a 2.1 setup except it's a 5.1 setup, so the left speaker is both front and rear left, right speaker is both front and rear right, and the subwoofer is both the sub and the center speaker. Stereo speakers are harman/kardon something, subwoofer I have no idea. elephants

Posted February 7, 2021 I use a par of Kef Egg speakers which are bookshelf speakers and then I use a separate dual 8 inch powered sub to handle the bottom end. In reality "best" is very subjective. Depending on what your main wants are and budget will often change the answer to this question. I would never want large tower speakers with my computer deck because It wouldn't fit in at all with my set up but I totally understand why in some set ups they would be desirable. Posted February 7, 2021 I've been using this 2.1 set purchased on Amazon for several years: https://www.amazon.com/Genius-SW-G2-1-1250-2-1-Audio/dp/B08143J5G6 I'm not an audiophile but they've given me nothing to complain about for gaming, YouTube, and occasional music listening. When my wife bought them for me as a gift Amazon also did an oopsie and sent a crate with 4 sets, so I was able to resell the other 3, meaning I made money by getting them, so how much can I complain. Sadly they've been unavailable for Amazon for quite a while, and they appear to have pulled the old product page and then relisted it for some reason, as there used to by many more reviews. I've considered replacing them with something like the Kanto YU2's or Audioengine A2+, mainly because I would like to simplify my setup by dispensing with the separate subwoofer and control box, but for my needs I can't justify spending the money until what I have stops working. Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy. If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear. People who have used all three types which one sounds the best ? I actually don’t use any of those, though I have used all of them in the past. I got a sound bar, which is really just a pair of stereo speakers smushed together I guess. Mostly because it was very convenient. One plug and go. I got some headphones as well for Christmas, which is actually quite useful because they actually do surround really well. They fake it of course. It’s quite complex how it’s done. I’m not an audiophile though. Not a pro, not even very good. I’m just old and have time currently. Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake. Posted February 8, 2021 I just use the Creative Pebble USB speakers. I'm looking to upgrade to something by Audioengine. I really only use speakers during games or for watching YouTube videos, so it might be overkill. I'm primarily a headphones-user when it comes to music.
