Best way to obtain 3080 Founders @MSRP - Discord, Best Buy notifications, ???

Like the title says, I need to know what's going to give me the best shot at getting a 3080 Founders at MSRP. The only valid seller I'm aware of is Best Buy.

 

I have a client (a buddy) who currently has my 2070S in his build...he had an opportunity cost he needed a PC to meet, so I had to loan it to him to get the sale at all. I want my 2070S back, but he only wants the founders version of the 3080 he paid me to get him.

 

People have pointed me to Discord, that there are channels that advertise when there's stock, but the ones I've looked at don't list the Founders card at Best Buy. They look at Amazon, NewEgg, B&H, etc. and seem to list only AIB cards.

 

I've heard that Best Buy e-mail stock notifications are garbage, and will come several hours after they've already sold out - if they ever send the e-mail.

 

I'll do the work and play the game, I don't want to pay for a bot to go buy it for me or something like that. I just need to know when it's in stock to be able to play the game.

 

I can't sit and refresh Best Buy endlessly. I have a day job, and I can't divert my attention from it like that. I can if it's for like 10 minutes every day.

 

Any ideas? Is there a specific Discord I need to be looking at for this? Are there typical days/times that Best Buy restocks them? Or am I just SOL?

There comes a point where it's no failure to admit to your friend that they're in for a long wait & if you luck onto a card, he'll be (we'll he SHOULD be) pleasantly surprised.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

r/hardwareswap is the best bet. You need to basically sit and refresh every 5 minutes but you should be able to get one for MSRP + ~$75 tariff  or under MSRP if it's local. I got a 2070 and 5700xt in about 2 days of actively refreshing all throughout the day. You can also speed the process up by offering $20 more than the best current offer and usually everyone bites at that

Just keeping this here as a Why does it have to be the founders edition? There's nothing particularly special about it and itll take you a LOT longer to get one. If anything id rather have a GPU that DOESNT dump heat right onto my CPU/VRM. I guess it's not as big a deal if you have an AIO, but with an air cooler the founders cooler is a definite NO.

Any ideas? Is there a specific Discord I need to be looking at for this? Are there typical days/times that Best Buy restocks them? Or am I just SOL?

With the AIB raising prices on cards I am not sure how long NVIDIA can go selling their RTX 3080 at $700 or their RTX 3090 at $1500.  Plus NVIDIA had planned on cancelling FE models but people complain on social media made them rethink this, point being NVIDIA for better or worse has never liked selling their own cards since they compete against AIB models and their site was never properly setup as a ecommerce site, thus that is why they shifted all FE sales to Best Buy in the US.  It wouldn't surprise me if they stopped selling FE cards all together

 

I am guessing you are looking at a FE not only because they are great cards but because they are the cheapest ones out there, but the likelihood of getting a RTX 3080 FE is low.  What that means, you are going to have to pony up more money for an AIB model.  Signup for EVGA notifications, every Tuesday keep refreshing on Best Buy's website, look to hardwareswap or Facebook marketplace for scalpers.  Heck if you have the money or credit line I would consider picking up a RTX 3090 and then trading it with someone for a RTX 3080 plus the price difference.

BestBuy + Average Tech Reviews discord. BestBuy will probably drop this week if the pattern continues. When BestBuy drops, they usually aren't actually that hard to find

Actually, client wants it because of the aesthetic. It's the only 3080 he likes the design of, and he's a super visual person.

 

I've softened him up on the idea of "we'll get what we can get," but he's still really only going to be "happy" with the FE.

I didn't even have to do that.  I just showed up at Micro Center on Christmas Eve Day around 11:30am.  I was on my way to my parent's house which takes me about a 2 mile detour to go to MC.  Figured I'd stop by because earlier in the morning I noticed they said they had about 20 of the EVGA 3080 FTW3's in stock.  When I got there the website wasn't showing sold out, just limited stock so I figured it was worth a shot.  Unfortunately, all the EVGA's were gone but they had 1 Asus TUF OC 3080 left in the case that the guy said literally came in on the truck about 15 min before I arrived at the store.  I was like "I will take it!"  I'm usually an EVGA guy but the Asus TUF was definitely my 2nd choice so I wasn't going to pass it up.  So the moral of my story is "be freaking lucky"

interesting, but I get some of his logic.  I get this theory with the RTX 3090 FE since it's the cheapest but also for the money one of the best coolers and IMO looks like a piece of jewelry almost.  The RTX 3080 FE is a tad different for me just due to the fact that there are some other high end RTX 3080 cards like the MSI Suprim which perform and look great yet are still under $1000, which mentally is that barrier that most consumers face. On the other hand for a client that really cares about aesthetics the 12 pin adapter looks horrible.

Those are realistically your options. Discord notifications won't help you unless with checkout within like 90 seconds of the alert.

 

 

Tried that for a little bit before realizing the futility. 90 seconds is super optimistic. Maybe you got about ten seconds or so at the very best. 
 

Unless you pretty much take time out of an actual job to dedicate to this task, you should probably just sign up for notifications at EVGA and pretty much forget about it.

 

As for what to do with your 2070, it’s up to you. One of you is going to be out a GPU for a long while. Unless you pay up the scalper premium, there’s no easy way around that.

Oooof really? Most people I heard were quoting $75. But I guess if it's a percentage a higher cost card will be more
