how would that take down amazon, exactly? I can't imagine many people at all stop using amazon because they have to spend 2 min adding a new payment option

I'm with lawlz, whilst i rarely visited pornhub in particular, you go to any of these adult video hosting places and you'll find virtually every video infested with fake tags. So sure i bet searches for potentially, (a lot of the search terms fall into grey area's after all as they cna apply to people on both sides of the divide), illigial content returned a billion and one results. I also bet the first billion of those where completely legal stuff.

 

Yes i'm sure stuff that shouldn't ends up on these sights, in terms of adult stills i did come across one once that given i knew the girl in question when i was younger, (we dated for a bit), was definitely underage and i'm basically certain that it was taken by her dad who abused her. it does exist alas, but it's not the epedemic people like to make out. The issue is that with so much stuff out there even a very low percentage of stuff, (i'd bet it's below 0.1% myself), adds up to a lot of individual instances.

 

The fact that some of these are being willingly uploaded by the very people who are in them dosen't help, abuse whilst not necessarily easy to spot is comparatively a lot easier

While this probably means a large portion of my favorited videos are gone, I also realize that PornHub don’t really have a choice here. 
 

They can’t allow anyone to upload whatever they want because of issues like child porn which is a serious crime. All they can do is take down everything they know is legal. 
 

I hope that PornHub hasn’t deleted all the content and has rather hidden it and will begin sifting through it and adding it back as they improve their site to screen out the problems.

As someone who helps their partner patrol their online content being shared without their consent (pirated) I think this is a good step. Way too often there will be multiple accounts with just a couple videos of hers uploaded to them and it's really tedious getting it all taken down because you have to flag 18 different accounts with like 2-3 videos each of hers and other videos that I'm sure are pirated which probably never get taken down. She doesn't make big money, it's just to help with her car payment and buy some nice meals for us once in a while and maybe help fund a hobby of hers.

Seriously though, what else are they supposed to do? They have apparently hosted a shed load of illegal stuff over the years and have had to rely on mechanisms that miss a lot of it at upload stage, then rely on reports from users to weed out more. It is not trivial for an algorithm to identify the age of people in videos, whether the people are being abused or have had their private content stolen and uploaded. So there is little other option than to have users prove their content before it is uploaded.

Not what I meant, obviously sites with mostly illegal stuff should be removed. Pornhub just isn't one of them and out of their collection really small amount of it is illegal.

Bigger problem is the child porn itself. Too bad police has insufficient funds to investigate it, or they don't prioritize it.

my opinion : maybe they should have removed "under age stuff" earlier rather than afterwards purging 50-90% of their contents, and also maybe they should have cared earlier about uploads of clearly copyrighted contents too... my conclusion is, they didn't really care at all... easier to just keep going until inevitably get caught and the obligatory "oops..."

 

tldr: nothing of value was lost, Twitter is still going, isn't it!  😏

IMHO it's overwhelming the number of users who are willing to reply with the implication that they are happy that they archived their favorite videos, on a thread about a pornography website removing child abuse material, without also stating that they do not archive any child abuse material.
