Would You Rather: One Single Brand or No Repeating Brands?

Recently I've been getting into the Samsung ocean of products, we're talking Samsung S20, Samsung Buds+, Samsung Watch Active, Samsung microSD, Samsung SSD, and even Samsung cables!

So that got me wondering, would you rather be able to buy from only one brand or never be able to buy from the same brand twice i.e not repeating from the same company?

 

This is exclusive to mobile tech/everyday carry only, so we're talking only:

• Phone
• Watch
• Audio - headphones, earphones etc.
• Laptop (Optional)
• Tablet (Optional)

 

For example:

• One single brand: Samsung
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch3
  • Samsung Galaxy Buds Live
  • Samsung Galaxy Book
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S7
• No Repeating Brands
  • OnePlus 8

  • Apple iPad Pro

 

So what would you choose, and how would you go about your setup?

The only things I have from that list and use on a regular basis are phone and earbuds. They're from different brands, so I guess that answers that question.

 

Though I do have a Fitbit that I haven't used in a while, but I don't use it because Samsung refuses to properly support the Fitbit app on my phone and I can't pair it.

EDC only, yes? I could live with not buying from the same brand twice. Not sure if I could stick to any one brand for my EDC; not familiar with any brand that hits all of my needs with all four products (phone, watch, earphones, laptop).

• Phone: Samsung Galaxy S8+
• Watch: Casio BGA152-7B1 / Shanling M0
• Audio: FiiO FH5 IEMs
• Laptop: (Ideally) Lenovo Thinkpad T14 AMD

 

My Needs

• Phone: Any Android device would work fine, TBH. Haven't been in the smartphone market for years, would need to think for a bit before I could pinpoint what sorta features I'd be looking for.
• Watch: A digital watch is fine by me; probably one from Casio, been using their lineup for years now. Could also settle for a media player that doubles as a time device, and that I could wear on my wrist. Bonus points if the media player has Bluetooth and is Android-compatible.

  • Shoot, can't buy from the same brand twice. Shanling M0 it is.
• Audio: I need earphones that are relatively resistant to careless abuse and that are wired or that have a battery life of 12-24+ hours (haha, impossible order?). Also, specifically earphones, because headphones are too bulky to include in my EDC.
• Laptop: Good keyboard. Chiclet-types or ones with excessively minimal travel won't work for me. Oh, and would be nice if it were relatively simple to upgrade its parts. Aiming for at least 16 GB RAM and a 500 GB - 1 TB SSD.

Depends on the device and how interconnected their stuff is.

If I buy some Chinese brand of smartphone, chances are, I can't buy any accessories for it because there are none, isn't it? 

 

But for me, I'd rather have different brands, I guess. No single brand can be a master of all trade.

personally, as long as they work fine together, brands doesnt matter (and shouldnt matter)

i even use headphones meant for apple on my android phone, so the additional buttons are useless (there are probably apps to make it work but eeh)

 

Phone: as long as it's android and doesnt have funny UI/"skins" -glares at xiaomi with their crappy skin- Been liking Sony so far.

Watch: so far, been using Casio's G-Shock series for the past ~15 years, dont see it changing anytime soon.

Audio: haven't delve into audio world yet, so as long as it works, it's good enough (dont sound too crap, though)

Laptop: lowkey asus fanboy, but dell laptops also interests me. MSI and their turbo jet engine fan mode doesn't interest me, but if they're well designed and good value, sure.

Tablet: been wanting a windows based tablet, but the touch input on windows sucks so probably not getting one anytime soon.

Hmm I used to have quite a bit of Apple gear, not really a fan boy, I'll have anything if I like it.

 

• Phone: iPhone 6S
• Watch: Apple Watch 2
• Audio - headphones, earphones etc: Apple wired Earpods (came with the phone)
• Laptop (Optional): MacBook Pro for Music production and an Asus Windows laptop for college
• Tablet (Optional): iPad Air

Now I have:

 

• Phone: Samsung Note 10+ 5G
• Watch: Fossil Q (Google WearOS)
• Audio - headphones, earphones etc: Apple Airpods
• Laptop (Optional): Microsoft Surface Pro
• Tablet (Optional): Microsoft Surface Pro (too)

As long as product is good, well reviewed and I like it, I'll get it. I'd go back to an iPhone in a heartbeat, but equally would love a new Samsung in future. I love the AirPods and use them with my Note 10+ because I don't like in-ear earphones, just the ones that rest in the entrance of your ear haha!

 

So.. I guess I've flipped from having everything one brand, to having one of a lot of brands I guess. I love all of my current tech though and wouldn't really change it any time soon.

Current things:

Phone: if I cared to use one, it would be muh hand-me-down Nexus 5

Watch/timepiece: Fitbit Charge 2, don't care much about actual fitness history/pairing with a device. Time is a bit off now but it is what it is

Audio: I use cheapo sony wired headphones or the old apple wired earbuds at school(during a time of not covid). and cowin e7 wireless headphones at home

Laptop: Acer Kroaumbrik Spin 11

Tablet: I sometimes pull out a Samsung Galaxy Tab A, but never for EDC

 

Needs/wants:

Phone: Android, a headphone jack pls, and 6+ hour battery life

Watch: Tells time and at least step count, and isn't some odd shape

Audio: for wireless/bluetooth EDC things, probably gonna have to be wireless "fitness". I think LETSCOM has some ok offerings. optional audio cable is nice when BT dies/isn't working

Laptop: 7+ hr battery life, at least 3 USB A ports, "tactile-ish" keeb, hopefully 16GB kroam food, 500GB+ storage is a must

Tablet: Android, doesn't have wonky brightness adjusting, doesn't crash

No repeating brands. Actually, this one's really fucking easy as I already do this:

Phone: iPhone for sure (currently on a 7 Plus)

Watch: N/A

Audio: Sony MDR-7506

Laptop: Some HP pile of shit, although I don't really need to worry about brand here

Tablet: Also N/A 

 

My needs are simple, I'll go through them here:

Phone: I like my iPhones. That's about it.

Audio: Truthfully, I really like decent studio-style headphones. I don't give a fuck if I look stupid in them, I am stupid so I might as well embrace the look.

Laptop: I want something with Ryzen and, preferably, a 1366x768 screen. Don't ask why.

I could buy all that from Apple and I do, largely (I don't have an Apple Watch). Apple has the best "ecosystem"; I love the connection between the products. That's the main downside of PC/Windows for me. 

 

Audio is a bit of an exception because I have some higher-end equipment that Apple doesn't offer but I own Air Pods for casual listening.

Watch: Had a Apple watch 5 until I smashed it last month, will get another

Audio: I dont use headphones normally

Laptop: Macbook Pro

Tablet: Ipad Air, cant remember the exact model, Ill update it this winter probably though because this one is getting on in years

I'm not going to settle on a product just because it shares a brand. Hence I have a Galaxy S20, Audio Technica headphones / Beats In Ears (this was won at work, so lol whatever it was free) and an iPad instead of a Samsung tablet.

Depends on Product for Phones and TV's i'd go Samsung for features that are intertwined, for earphones/speakers i have no affiliation so i can go anywhere. for SSD's samsung as the make some of the best SSDs, for HDD i'd go for WD, for power supply i'd go for corsair, for graphics card i'd stick to nVidia, for monitors i'd go for LG, there's so one single answer. 

but what i never go for any Chinese devices such as MI/redmi/xiomi etc or any Apple devices.
