Interesting they chose very neutral countries for their examples. Spain was so neutral they didn’t even get involved in WW2.  Must have been hard finding “random” examples to make that argument with.  It also carefully avoids the why. They couldn’t choose russia because russia already does that.  Russia’s Syrian war involvement is mostly about their military base in Syria. Their involvement in Ukraine is mostly about trade and access to a warm water port.  Looking at the map, the US is basically the same.  Bases cluster around the Suez canal, the Panama Canal, and stuff  that are leftovers from the Cold War.  China wasn’t involved much in the Cold War, but they’ve put up bases all over the South China Sea, and are moving into Africa.  The US wants to close a lot of military bases especially in Europe, but European countries have been preventing it. Older Americans are viscerally familiar with the “weapons on borders” thing.  The Cuban missile crisis that was literally mere yards away from starting ww3 was a thing after all.

You can do all kinds of stuff when you clip single frames and take them out of context.  There’s a famous B&W film clip of hitler doing a “little dance” when learning the France surrendered.  It never happened. It was done with clipping from other footage.
