WTF IS THIS 14 CORE PROCESSOR REAL!?!

This Xeon processor has 16 fetching cores and a 35 mb cache for 168 USD. Paired with a cheap dell workstation mobo, 16 gb ddr3 and like and like 1080 ti you could have like a ballin pc for under 700!

Specs checkout but the price is a little sketch. The 2698v3 is still going for over 2 times that price.

If you trust the seller it's a really good deal.

 

Also it requires DDR4 not DDR3 to operate. Socket LGA2011-v3

XEONs arent the best for gaming. A cheaper CPU like a 9100f, 10100, 3100 or 3300x would perform MUCH better.

It's a decent cpu IF you can manage to find a board for cheap AND you actually have a task for it to use all those cores. Otherwise it's kinda a very meh cpu. For gaming this thing is pretty terrible.

Depends on what ballin means to you. If it's for gaming, it might not be the best choice because of the modest frequency those cores run at and the locked multiplier.

Also, Broadwell runs with DDR4 memory, and a computer with all of that under $700 sounds pretty optimistic.

Agreed, maybe with the exception of the 9100. In something like Battlefield 5, or other games that will eat up all of the threads you throw at them, that Xeon will most likely smack around the 4C/4T i3.

Though yeah, again, I wouldn't consider this optimal for a system strictly meant for gaming.

I think the people in this thread are underselling this CPU. 1. Most games are not CPU bottlenecked, 2. 14 Broadwell cores will game just fine, the problem right is now is thread count not pure IPC as now games are no longer limited to 4 cores.

If I was a streamer this would be a great buy for gaming and streaming I think due to the core count. In any case nice find, these are likely "e-waste", aka the big deployment of these isnt financially viable compared to the latest and greatest on a datacenter scale so they "recycle" them by selling them for cheap.

We have some 2640v4's here at work. They work great. But it's all for VM's so it's mostly multi-core use. I will say these aren't the fastest per-core cpu's out there. You'd be better with something else for games. 

But if you have some kinda multi thread workload they work great. Great bang for the $ now.
