Can I use a 550W PSU with a RTX 2070?

ecks86

I'm going to start my first build soon. My specs are:

Ryzen 7 3700X

32GB DDR4

RTX 2070

1TB M.2

1TB SATA SSD

4TB SATA HDD

4 Case fans

The estimated TDP is around 400, so I was wondering if my 550W 80+ Gold would work or if I should get a better one. I have no plans to overclock.

Then you're fine, Seasonic's Focus units are pretty good.

You're looking at under 300W power draw at full 100% load on both the CPU and GPU btw, in case you thought 550W might not be enough.

Seasonic Focus plus is a joke of a psu.

problems with high transient gpus due to bad protection implementation, annoying fan due to bad temps & seasonic lying about temps.

How so?

There's a handful of different variants btw, not just one "Seasonic Focus".

i just explained that in the comment ^^

High transient GPUs like Vega 64s and 1080Tis would trigger OCP on the older FX and FM models. This is not a problem with OP's 2070.

The fans Seasonic use in their units are quite underwhelming in terms of quality, and that's a well known fact, but regardless,

..it's anything but loud at ~300W output, and that's at a 37-47C ambient. I'd expect ambient temps for most users in the real world to be much lower than that.

Pricing is fine on the GX and GM imo. The PX is overpriced, I agree.
