BOINC Pentathlon 2020

I have some Marathon WU's cooking now, but TBH our Sprint hourly production is looking a little sad... I am going to start splitting CPU time between those two. I just want to be able to contribute a little to the marathon, as we just don't want to totally give up that lead.

Edit: (Because I don't think its worth a whole other post)

It looks like Amicable now has more WU's available. Server stats is still showing 0, but it gave me 20 and it seems to be sending new ones for each one that gets submitted. Moved GPU back from F@H to that' I'm heeded to bed tho, so we'll see what it looks like in the morning.

I'm doing the best I can...... lol :)

P.S. I also screwed up major with my systems at home and they weren't doing Sprint jobs at all, tbh no idea if they were doing anything at all. I think maybe NumberFields but all the jobs they did do hit deadline and expired so total god damn waste.

God damn that sucks. I had a couple of NumberFields that expired too.

It's not too bad I think, should have only be 100k, 200k like total max but I doubt it. Home systems are three 2x X5650, one 2x E5-2630v2 and one E5-2670. Just pissed off that they weren't running the correct project.

Yeah its so hard to keep track of all the systems. I have so many VMs instances running.

I put all my effort in to the servers at work. The home servers..... yea they participate 🤣

Question, are we willing to risk our 3rd position in Sprint to get 2nd in Marathon. I'm pretty sure we can take it if I switch all my systems over to Rosetta but we'll stall our IBER output and we don't know how many points teams are hiding each.

I'd say we stay on Sprint and maintain what we got on Marathon. They are not far behind us on Sprint.

I could move some of my systems over to Rosetta though, maybe all my ones at home that were doing nothing the whole time rather than add them to Sprint.

OK I have a problem. Yesterday I setup NumberFields to run on 1 system saving up for the next throw, I set it to download 5 days of work but for some reason I didn't get enough tasks downloaded before I turned off network activity and I'm about to run out with 2 days still to go.

Is there a way to get more tasks downloaded without letting the 600 tasks I've have completed escape ? The tasks are that small that even if I set the upload rate to 0.01KBs they will upload faster then I can download new tasks.

I had most of my systems still crunching 10-20hours task for iber. I decided to cut losses and cancelled them all to get faster task (I noticed that sometimes I got ridiculously low points for 10hours task). Aaaand I got new tasks planned for 16hours 😢 I thought they removed them from the server...  (ok seems to be only artifacts in the estimation, it did 10% in 15min)

Also one server was still crunching rosetta while bunkered, all task are expired...

And my desktop custom loop started leaking last night :D was expecting it (dirt cheap fittings with a loop running full blast since the f@h covid event). Now that is good news, I will finally be able to transplant the system in its new home. I have a LL 011 DXL waiting for couple of weeks !

Edit:

Good news, I found two bunkers with 400 tasks waiting for me to allow upload !

spin up another instance of Boinc in windows

First create a folder boinc2 in C:\programdata and then copy over your gui_rpc_auth.cfg & cc_config.xml (you will want yo change the gui_rpc_auth.cfg to an easy to type password if it isnt then

cc_config should look similar to this and be in both boinc folders:

<cc_config>
   <options>
       <allow_remote_gui_rpc>1</allow_remote_gui_rpc>
       <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
       <allow_multiple_clients>1</allow_multiple_clients>
   </options>
</cc_config>

(the use all GPUS is optional for this but i have it on bender due to 2xnvidia)
the command to start that instance is

"c:\Program Files\BOINC\boinc.exe" --allow_multiple_clients --redirectio --detach_console --gui_rpc_port 31418 --dir C:\ProgramData\BOINC2

once started in boinc go to file new boinc manager window

and do 127.0.0.1:31418 then youe easy to type password

and set it up.

if linux well @leadeatercould advise...

So for the sprint, I have a lot of task taking the same amount as the other but that only get 6-7 points instead of 50-70 for others. Do you guys also observe this? and is there a trick to improve the yield?

I had most of my systems still crunching 10-20hours task for iber. I decided to cut losses and cancelled them all to get faster task (I noticed that sometimes I got ridiculously low points for 10hours task). Aaaand I got new tasks planned for 16hours 😢 I thought they removed them from the server...  (ok seems to be only artifacts in the estimation, it did 10% in 15min)

As I find the longer tasks that have been running I suspend them rather than abort, if I have to I can resume them if they have 60%+ done and hours to complete and can within the event. But yea these long jobs SUCK.
