BOINC Pentathlon 2020

That's fine, just wanted to check since the Team didn't exist at the start so you may not have been able to join.

Looking at our position it doesn't look worthwhile for me to pursue Ibercivis unless it turns out people are bunkering till the end of the event. I'm all CPU so the GPU enabled projects are pointless and we aren't making any good headway to pass P3DN! in the Marathon so I'd just about say all my CPU is useless now till the end of the event TBH.

That's why I asked about switching back to Marathon, really depends on the risk of ranks we could/would lose in Sprint. I'm not sure we will keep 3rd where getting 2nd is still possible, maybe but that window closes every hour.

As I find the longer tasks that have been running I suspend them rather than abort, if I have to I can resume them if they have 60%+ done and hours to complete and can within the event. But yea these long jobs SUCK.

Oh man, I just removed 10 hours worth of jobs on my Surface. Even after 10 hours, they'd only gotten to 20% completion. Seriously doubt it would have finished by the end of the event. Also, I was bunkering NumberFields and 20 or so of my jobs ran into a computation error(too high O/C); argh. Just running AmicableNumbers instead, for now.

I swear to our lord and savior Linus I will pick up a few more servers purely for BOINC before next years event. One WILL BE the HP DL560p Gen8. The next I may try to find a quad-socket LGA2011-v3/DDR4 server if the cost isn't astronomically greater.

Having 4 physical CPUs in a 2U form factor is some amazing density. Imagine filling a rack with them. THINK OF THE MIPS! 🤤

Moving a few more boxen over to Ibercivis, well worn but not abused CPU's so not expecting great numbers but still something to help out.

Since we're within the Marathon WU deadline, could hide some production. Others may be doing the same.

Couldn't we just stop Amicable?  We are 25 million points ahead and 10 million behind, I dont think we are going anywhere? Also production behind is way lower than us, it would take +25 hours for them to catch up with us doing no work at all..

Instead we could get a decent throw in for javelin and keep our current spot, or even gain one.

Just 2 c

Was thinking the same thing, there might be some teams holding/hiding points but if that is the case it may be more than we can deal with anyway. Just also need to be careful not to over produce NumberFields but then again it was hard enough hitting 1.5m last time and that is what I fear the most tbh.

Thing with Amicable.. when others dump their work we get points to! If we have pending work of course (I think thats how quorum 2 works)

Also before the last day it might not be a bad idea to change the project preferences for Rosetta from 8 hours per task down to 4 or even 2 hours per task.

Hey if people here are willing to throw a few bucks in a hat for me to pick up some retired high core count servers off eBay or refurbished hardware websites I'll host them.

Anyone else having a problem where target CPU time isn't doing anything on Rosetta? I've set it to 2 hrs but jobs are still running/set for 8 hours.

I believe you have to complete those jobs before it gives you 2hrs one.

These are all brand new, not a big deal but weird anyway. Hopefully it'll kick in and start giving me 2 hour jobs, I set it to 2 hours days ago though.

I just never took it off the default 8 hours. My assumption is the point system scales linearly. I don't think there's a real point advantage to making them smaller.
