Creative ways to keep your hands warm

I live in the great white north, and have a legitimate problem in keeping my hands warm during winter gaming sessions. I tend to be pretty stingy on the thermostat, and opt for sweaters and blankets, but I tend to end up inescapably having my hands exposed, and moving quickly to play esports games. The rapid heat loss from my finger tips legitimately impacts my performance and is just plain uncomfortable.

 

Has anyone else experimented with ways to remedy this? I bought these USB powered heat-pad gloves from Amazon a while back, but they were cheap and uncomfortable, and one of the heat pads stopped working after a few months. I tried using these snap-heat packs but they only last for about 20-30 minutes, and require you to boil them on a stove to reset them, which is a pain to do. Not to mention you need to take your hands away from your game to use them. I've seen some players using these heatbuff things at events, but $200 is pretty steep for a product I haven't seen reviews on, and only saw in sponsored product placement. Anyone got thoughts or suggestions? Other Canadians starting to feel the chill as we head toward winter?

I was joking with a friend of mine that I should extend my water loop through a pair of gloves so I can use my frigid ass hands to cool my CPU. If that's not an LTT video, I don't know what is.

I just have a small energy efficient space heater on the desk and one on the floor for my feet.

 

They are like $30 each. 

 

I'm not sure why you are trying so many odd methods of keeping yourself warm when a simple space heater would do.

Get a heater for the room. You may even get a heater with a fan and angle it at your keyboard so your hands get blasted. Also, your hands are heated via blood flow, so try doing things that get your blood moving. Take breaks from playing and move your body.

I have arthritis so Im really cant be stingy with thw thermastat less I want to suffer. i where a lot of wool socks and will even wear gloves while gaming

Some dort of IR heater above hands. Only way to make heat heavily localized and not getting in the way. IR also helps if you're in a big room that you don't want to heat up coz that would take a lot of energy and be costly in the end.

 

Buy small IR panel, mount in above you and that's it.

Yeah, that's what I got into looking at today. I guess the question becomes mounting and positioning well with my rig. I've got some desk space, but I'd love a solution that sits below my monitors and points at my mouse and keyboard. Maybe I should look into getting a flexible lamp of some sorts and installing an IR ceramic bulb or something so I can move it around.

Get some of those microwave bags filled with wheatgerm (or something else) they're soft and can easily be used as a wrist wrest.  I use them for neck and back pain.

They heat up an element using electrical resistance. Some loss in the form of visible light, but it's insignificant.

 

FYI, I think a space heater is otherwise an excellent suggestion though.

 

If the OP just needs to warm their hands - a really small one - 100W or 200W - should be more than sufficient.

there are some "carbon fibre" type desktop mats that you can place them under the kb&m and radiate heat. i got cold feet often and i have this similar heating mat that helps too. usually these mats using carbon heating heating elements and wont get too hot, like 60 degree.

 

dont buy heating gloves tho, put on thick clothes and drinking hot water.

why everybody post the spec of their rig here? i dont! cuz its made of mashed potatoes!

Isn't every problem on a tech forum a first world problem? My apartment is just really heat inefficient, and the only heating I have is electric baseboard which tends to run the utility bill pretty damn high in the winter months. Just trying to find a more localized solution that I can use basically just at my desk without concern for heating the rest of my apartment.
