Alright so im 13 years old. The problem here is that  I live in Kuwait, and there are no jobs for people under 18. I know that you can be 14 to work in the US, but I am not sure about Canada, since I might be moving there. And my friends, I've been friends with them 3 years. But I'll do something. Thanks.

To all the "get a job" posts, I'd like to say that it's really not that easy for someone his age to get a job in Kuwait. Actually it's close to impossible, unless you sell sunflower seeds on the streets in hot temperatures (30-40 degrees) but even then it'd take years before he'd be able to make that much. Also, expats barely make any money (significant amount I mean) and sometimes live paycheck to paycheck to pay for rent (which is expensive as fuck by the way), bills and sending money to their families back home. OP, I suggest waiting it out. I'm sure your parents aren't just sitting on money and not buying you anything. It's just circumstances.

<content removed> i lived with a crappy old laptop 8 year old laptop till i was 16. 8 years with that laptop, all my friends had nice gaming laptops and pcs too but my parents didn't believe in giving me stuff and instead made me work for them. when i was 16 i picked up a part time job as a supermarket cashier and worked my ass off to buy my first gaming pc. i assume your "lots of money saved up" is just money you got from your parents during your birthday or saving your pocket money for it.

sometimes life doesn't always go your way. yes you may have a sucky laptop but well just gotta work with it. also if your friends are bullying you because you have a bad laptop then why on earth are you friends with them. make new friends who dont just laugh at you because you wont fit in.

and believe me, actually working your ass off to buy your own pc will feel much better.

100% agree. Being a teen is also so underrated. I made a mistake of buying a crappy laptop with a Ryzen 3500u. I didn't really need it, because now I have a work laptop. I wish I had spent my money on traveling or something more memorable. Being an adult, you have to learn how to spend your money wisely. Otherwise you'll end up with a cluttered house full of expensive junk you seldom use and no money. If you get a job which requires CAD (CAD basically guarantees you a job in many places BTW, add COVADIS to that and you're a unicorn in the job market), you'll have your laptop and phone. Just wait it out. And enjoy having free time and friends to go to when you're still a teen. You'll always have oddly specific shortcomings in life. It may be crappy laptop, car or appliance. But life continues.

And LinusTechTips as a way of life just isn't real. You can't always have the latest stuff. You probably shouldn't "upgrade" your computer and phone every 2 years.

They mean GeForce Now, the (currently) free game streaming service that lets you play with a GTX 1080, as long as you have an adequate connection.

What about trying to get an external graphics card that could boost your laptop performance for gaming (and also allow your parents to ration the use of it if needed without affecting studies etc) which would also be a cheaper option than a whole new desktop?

I know virtually nothing about this option but I am sure there would be a whole host of people here who could come up with some good suggestions.

There's no way a 2011 laptop has the I/O to accommodate one. You need thunderbolt or M.2 slots

I have a cousin who works part time at the age of 16. His parents then conveniently began demanding rent from him. If he makes $200 for example, his parents take $180 and left $20 for him as pocket money.

Imo, a kid should never have greater than a hundred dollar to spend on at any time.

About the same as your landlord, the country's tax offices and various needs will do later... Does make sense to teach that most of what you make isn't actually available to you just for fun, but goes straight out to pay for your basic needs and obligations...

i think im getting too old for this forum because i actually feel with the father in this story.

when i was younger i also always had the shittiest pc out of my friends. my parents used to give me  a set budget for presents, be it birthday or christmas and for years i spent them all on pc parts to at least somewhat keep up with the other kids. honestly if youre getting made fun then fuck those "friends".

I'm surprised this post is still going. I'll give my two cents:

I had my first laptop when I was around 11 years old, for free, from a government programme. Basic machine, did just fine for word processing, etc. As a kid, I barely did any school work on it, I mainly played light games. My parents bought me a new one after using my old one for quite a few years, and dropping it accidentally. I was very lucky to get a fairly good, with a core i7 that today, is still a good laptop. Either way, it wouldn't game, which is what I wanted badly, and my parents wouldn't just buy me a new one for this purpose, so, one summer, I went abroad, to where I am currently living with family, and got a summer job, where I earned a fair amount of money. I worked really hard for that money, so hard indeed, that I thought twice before spending it on a PC that could do something that wasn't really a necessity. I still did it, quite a few months later, and while it provided me with good moments, I whish I had spent it elsewhere, such as travelling with friends, and going out more. I am now 21 years old, with a good job, and able to afford a good machine and most of the things I want, within reason, obviously, however, being abroad, I don't really have friends to go out with, anymore, and when I had, I feel like I wasted my time spending time on a computer, doing nothing productive. My point is, you're 13 years old and you have a laptop. Therefore, you're already lucky, like I was. Enjoy your youth doind other stuff, which you will probably not be able to do as a young adult. You'll have plenty of time for gaming, and if you just feel like you need to buy a new machine, just to fit in, don't. Don't be influenced with something that's not important. You don't really need a better laptop, and even if you did, if your parents don't get you one, it's probably because they can't. It's really easy to think that money is easy to earn, until you actually start earning your own.

Sorry for the long post, I can easly start rambling.
