My parents won't get me a PC

Soooo maybe your friends are dicks. Don't buy things just because of peer pressure. Harassing people because they didn't spend "enough" money on something is disgusting.

I can't play any games or do any programming

What kind of programming are you doing that would require a faster computer? I have a 2011 thinkpad x220 and I haven't had any problems with it in my 5 years of software engineering studies.

Not everyone gets to have their own laptop in high school (I'm assuming you're in high school...?), I wouldn't be so dismissive of it.

With all of that said, I can understand wanting to play modern videogames - unfortunately if your parents aren't ok with that there isn't much you can do to convince them. One thing you can try is to look for some used hardware, lower the amount of money you want to spend and ask your parents again; perhaps they'll appreciate your attempt to lower the expense.

Other than that, there are thousands of games you can play just fine on an hd3000 ranging from old pc games to indie titles to console emulators. I can recommend the old doom and quake games, shovel knight, baba is you, jedi academy, age of empires 2, human resource machine and bioshock as a start if you don't know what to look for.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Everyone here is wrong. OP, just stop being poor. Simple.

Seriously kid, do odd jobs. We all had to work to get our PCs because our parents couldn't justify an expensive gaming PC.

Just do extra chores, don't ask constantly and then in a little while after being patient you get one. (I have done it, it worked.)

Right but they can keep that money. If he were to do of jobs himself in his community, and get paid directly. Then he can buy a PC..

Not necessarily, back in the day I had several friends whose parents wanted them to work, but then they weren't free to use the money for what they wanted... parents wanted them to save up for whatever they considered they needed.

I'm sitting here reading this on a super basic 15" HP laptop with a Celeron dual core CPU, 4gb of RAM, and a 500gb hard drive. I got it on a lucky clearance deal for $69. If I was being picky, I would never have chosen it, but a brand new laptop when I didn't have anything newer than 8 years old, with a warranty, was too good of a deal to pass up. I always am one to 'tune' on my machines, and pare down everything I can to get the most out of them, so I uninstalled and removed the bloatware of free trials and extraneous things. It runs respectably, boots surprisingly fast, but I'm not playing even relatively modest Steam based games like Portal on it, even though I think theoretically it could. It chokes on 1080p60fps YouTube videos, after all. When you just need a system that isn't obsolete so you can log into things for work and paying bills, you don't get too worried about if your system can game or not.

I later caught a deal on an HP display laptop, 17", AMD A8 CPU, other better specs, for just over $100. That's my machine for Steam and full HD video and such. So, I'm still less than $200 into 2 laptops, one that stays home mostly, and another that travels.

I think dad is trying to teach OP a lesson in being an adult. As my finances improve, and if I can get ahead on some necessary projects, maybe I can afford to build another $650-$800 desktop that looks cool and can really grind out a workload like some serious video rendering and gaming. Meanwhile, the heat stays on and I don't have to live on ramen.

We're not going to tell your parents what to get you or not get you for that matter.

Life Lesson one: You can't always have what you want. My gaming pc was build back in 2015. I am not gonna upgrade it for another half a year or so.

you obviously forgot he lives in a country whose annual per carpita income is less than $2k.

Considering he is on the internet and have laptops to begin with, it must mean he is from an upper class family. The only realistically way for him to get a new pc is to beg his parents.

I worked when I first turned 14 on a paper route and at 16 worked at a gas station. From where saved up for my first computer. I have never had my parents buy me a computer but I also grew up in the 90's and early 2000's where it was not the norm to have a smart phone and laptop and a tablet. I remember my first phone and I was limited to 50-100 text messages a month and 100 minutes of talk time before 5pm LOL. Kids today are spoiled with the new advancements in technology. My family had a computer where I put games on it and used it but it was for everyone and it wasn't some "gaming computer". Find a job that allows you age and skill level and make your own money to buy what you want :)

Don't worry about it I play on a pc that runs minecraft at like 15 fps and has an admin password lock so its imposible to do anything after mydad forgot the admin password. I can't download, run new games, I only have 2 games minecraft and geometry dash on the laptop and they both barely run. now I just use it for discord calls and stuff. If your parents really won't get you a new pc find another hobby that you can use your computer for. Hope this response helped because clearly the other one isn't an option.

You need to reinstall windows, and throw your dad away.

They're not your friends then, friends don't bully you.

Or, they might just not know they're bullying you and they think they're just joking. Tell them how you feel.

Which is completely bullshit, if the dude earned that money himself by working part-time/odd jobs he should be able to spend that

I would raise absolute hell if I earned the money and wasn't allowed to spend it

Sometimes parents need to learn the hard way that the kid isn't going to submit to their whims forever, and respect is kind of a 2-way street as you can't be demanding the kid to respect you if you're actively disrespecting them by not allowing them to spend their own money (again assuming the money is earned and not given to them by the parents)

To be honest, I didn't earn the money, it was birthday money.
