Seems Huawei will not have any on their next phone

I’m not surprised about this. Shame really as I quite like many of the Huawei devices even if I do have to remember how to spell it every time I write it.

 

I for one hope this battle between the two nations comes to end Soon.

 

When the Mate30 Pro arrives it will be interesting to see what apps will be included. Will a new ecosystem have been developed by then and can it really be up to the levels we have all come to expect?

The enthusiast community will be able to sideload those things, but it will certainly be a massive blow to the mainstream appeal (and Huawei profits) of the device.

For me, that'd definitely be a reason not to get the phone. I use several paid-for apps on my phone that I wouldn't want to lose, like e.g. Camera FV-5, HiPER Calc, Smart Tools, Sygic GPS and Moon+ Reader.

For me, it would be a reason to get the device. It's almost impossible to get one without stupid Google garbage infesting it. If only it wasn't Chinese and with such weird reputation as of lately...

This would be another reason I would get this future device but ever since they remove the feature to unlock the bootloader, I won't be until they bring that back.

 

I have already started to use services such as F-Droid/Aurora Store to replace Google Play Store and replace google services with MicroG (Nano-droid). MicroG is mainly for some app that require it to launch and also UNLP.

 

I have stop using apps that force you to use Google Services, It just google store in built app purchase is easier really to implemented compare to having own licensing options.

Well i didnt had problems finding what i need. Yeah it lacks all the eyecandy but its far from useless.... As for the apps most of google play is garbage too so its not relevant in a comparison.

Honestly the only reason this would bother me would be because I couldn't get Google Pay

It's easy enough to sideload all the other Google Apps, but Gpay is a right pain

Are there any rules on excluding other app stores on Google's full fat Android? Reason I'm asking is I recall having a Samsung store as well as Google Play store on my S6. Huawei could create their store, and could use better rates as incentive to get more people moved over to it, both users and app developers. Non-exclusively I hope. *cough*Epic*cough*

Many apps including Google's require Play Services to function. To use that you need certification. You may sideload them for personal use though. So Huawei have to use a barebones Android. They have their own app store but it's hard to move people over when they rely on Google.

even if you sideload gapps, I dont think your device will be certified (meaning you wont be able to get some DRM apps like netflix off google play) AND on top of that I believe there is another certification for video DRMs that even if you install netflix apk from somewhere else it dictates if you can use it or use it at full resolution.

You can get your device registered by visiting a website and typing in your ID. It should still say uncertified but your device gets whitelisted and therefore access to services and apps.

Yeah, although there is still some legal murkiness as to whether they actually use AOSP with the ban but yeah they'd have to make a fork of some kind I believe. They do have their own OS but there is some doubts whether it's properly compatible with Android apps and whether it can reasonably substitute Android.

Wow, that is a massive blow to Huawei's bottom line. Almost feel sorry for them. Maybe they should really just do a lot of good PR showing that they don't spy... Etc. Change policies, side with the user's privacy publicly, through policy and announcements.

They're stuck between a rock and a hard place. If they try to distance themselves from the CCP and China, their sales will tank in China and they lose whatever support they get from China.

Yeah sorry, but I have a ton of paid apps I use for work, and others I enjoy. I like their hardware but this kills any interest in their upcoming hardware.

 

I can't see developers spending time, money, or cross honoring those purchases for 1 company (apple is a different beast so it's not the same comparison).

This the official repo check each app can be build/compile on their build server and packaged (ie open sourced code). Each update is check of actual person for potential back-doors/adwares/trackers. You always can use third party repo, if you think the official one is garbage.

IMO, this is better if your government is not China. As it not part of 5/14 eyes, if it google you know majority of the world government can access this data as most of western countries is either in 14 eyes.
