We did see some pretty good speeds from NASA when they did the whole moon to earth transmission. I believe they achieved 300mbps

Great if slow internet something you want, and horrible ping, and you will still need a transmitter powerful enough to communicate with the satellites.

 

There is a reason why satellite internet isn't very popular.

Then again, I wish ISPs banded together to do just this. Maybe not free, but at least a subscription based service to access Wifi everywhere without having to worry about roaming.
