The beauty of DRM protection

One day I will be able to play Monster Hunter Frontier in French/Italian/English on my PC, it's just a matter of time... 4 5 6 7 8 9 years later: It's finally coming!!!

Suddenly having flashbacks to the music situation in the mid-2000s, when people insisted that Apple 'must' adopt Plays For Sure DRM on iTunes music because hey, all the other stores were using it, right?  And then those stores started failing, Plays For Sure died, and all the songs you bought were useless unless you ripped them.  If you wanted to survive, you either went DRM-free or you rolled your own system.

 

UltraViolet was a well-meaning idea, but it ultimately meant being chained to someone else's implementation of movie rights rather than a true standard. Again, the ideal is either to go DRM-free or, if you have to use DRM, a service that's not at risk of disappearing any time soon.

Yeah, the only movies I had there were the digital versions from the DVD. Granted, they were probably in 1080, but being able to have it locally and do whatever with it is much more convenient.
