I dislike how rain slows down your FPS big time.

I have noticed in games with rain in it, the FPS take a nice fall.  Other then that games run beuatifully but not if its raining.  Why is this ?  sux..

Rain consumes CPU cycles and VRAM. Everything that is on screen is displayed because of some work that the GPU and CPU are doing. So naturally asking them to do more work at once will slow them down.

Tons more alpha textures that are overlapping, reflections on everything, fog effects...

 

Whit all this extra load, why would a game not have lower FPS with weather effects?

If a guru with 48k posts says rain sux ballz in games then he is speaking the truth and Ive experienced it with some AAA titles,,  I still get triple digits frame rates in rain but still its a bit*h big time.

In a modded Skyrim rain is a big deal.

 

1. Need a weather mod to mod the rain. 

2. Need a mod to add foot splash and drips.

3. Need a mod to add cloaks and hats when it rains.

4. Need a mod so NPCs go in doors while it rains.

5. Need a mod to add thunder and lightning when it rains. 

6. Need a mod so my character feels the effects of getting wet and the ability to dry off.

 

With all that rain overhead my characters usually stay indoors while it rains just like the NPCs do.
