What was the most revolutionairy game for graphics?

Tro
Go to solution Solved by MatheusSanzo,

Crysis when it first came out.

Can it run Crysis?

I wonder what game was the most revolutionairy with it's graphics. (Apart from the upcoming The Division, I think that game will break all graphics-records)

I thought about this alot and maybe it was something like San Andreas?

I would love to play that game if it was really a game-changer so to say.

(Sorry if posted in wrong subforum, I think game graphics are tech-related right?)

More than likely Crysis.

But both the Half Life games were pretty revolutionary both with graphics and technology.

Every will say it and I have to agree. The most revolutionary game was Crysis. The game was so intensive that even today it is still regarded with great respect by the gaming community.

Slowly it is now becoming Star Citizen to replace the name.

What @cartdog said. Also I'd add bf1942. With that game a line was drawn in the sand as half the graphics cards available didn't do t and l. And farcry was heavily used in GPU comparisons For things like foliage rendering.

true but it took many generations of GPUs to run crysis at high at 1080p  with 60+ fps

it might take start citizen faster than how long it took crysis

We don't know. Hell, SC is being partnered with AMD and NVIDIA so both tech in place might make the advancement in graphics in the game much higher than expected and besides, this isn't the final product! If I get a 780 then It will possibly struggle later on.

It's been said already but Crysis broke the mold, also melted more PC's than any other game.  I remember waiting about three years to play that game.

Even after all this time it is still an amazing shooter. (Who remembers the sharks)

Nothing to see here - move along.

Duke Nukem 3D, Doom 3D. Well ahead of the curve. It really depends on what we are talking about here. Are we talking about graphics for the gaming industry or modern day examples of computing power. A very open ended question.

They're both just copies of the game that created the FPS genre which is "Wolfenstein", although they're all Apogee games, but my vote for most revolutionary is Mario 64, it shaped 3D gaming and level design as it is today.
