Night theme as default

as a pretty "convinced" night theme user.. i have to say i disagree.

 

it seems to be an "unofficial agreed upon default" that whatever website or application you open up for the first time, if it has themes, the "white with black text" one is default.

 

besides, to me the theme is a nice reference whether i'm logged in or not

There used to be a blue theme similar to this one but it got killed when the forums upgraded IPboard versions like forever ago.

I'd have to say that I think it should be night theme default.

 

I hate having to deal with light theme websites during evenings or nights.

I use the day theme because my monitors aren't set to "BURN THE EYES" brightness. And I don't really care for switching.

 

Also I don't find dark themes by default to be better. Low contrast themes are better. Compare Zenburn, a popular theme for text editors to a sample of Windows 10's dark mode

 

 

(though the yellow is pretty harsh)

 

 

 

The higher contrast of Windows 10's implementation starts to hurt my eyes after a while, to the point where I see aftereffects.

This! Dark text on light screen allows the eyes to adjust. White text on black ends up burning my eyes giving me lines in my vision very quickly. but lower contrast dark themes are fine. Who do we have to hassle to get grey and pastel?

Before someone wants to call me out on how most light themes are also high contrast, the difference is what your eyes are doing. This is assuming you're in a dark environment.

 

With a dark theme and high contrast, your pupils are dilated to let more light in. However, when you focus in on a light colored object, your eyes are taking in a lot of light. When a light theme, there's more light overall so your pupils contract to allow less light in and the things you focus on generally are darker anyway.

Yeah, I must say, whoever thought going full black on white text was the best implementation of this...

I tried out the dark theme yesterday... I'm not a huge fan of the color choices. If it were more grey and less black than maybe. I Like discord's implementation (they're the only software I can think of that has a default dark theme). It uses medium greys for the parts of the screen where text is, and the side panels are a darker grey. Also, the text isn't white, it's just a light grey. Even twitch's is pretty good, which uses purple tinted shades of grey, and not super white text...... Idk, it's just not for me. I still think people who use dark themes are the minority, however small it may be.

Discord has the best version imo; I'm happy to have a dark mode at least though
