I finally got around to seeing what the random 3.5mm jack was that had a music note and an arrow pointing away from it on the back of my Presario 2286, and it turns out that it's a line out... So since some games get bitchy that I have two sound cards, I swapped out the SoundBlaster 128 for a Netgear FA312, seeing as how I've been wanting the ability to connect to my file server for some time (up to this point all my transfers have been done via floppy or USB 1.1). Now all that's left on the checklist is getting a fast PCI video card at some point.

very nice, ATI VGA wonder was my first VGA card.  They're still worth about $60-$100 on ebay.

 

The compaq ram board, i haven't actually seen that particular one before.

 

The first one is a clock i/o board - older PCs had no way of storing date/time  (and hardware settings were hardcoded dip switches prior to CMOS).  Just pop a coin cell in there and you're set. looks like one serial,one parallel with headers for perhaps another serial and/or game port.  did that come with an additional cable/connector? it should take up two slots.

If it did come with an "accessory" it's either long gone or hiding somewhere in the mess of a house it came from.

 

Also I'm super hoping that at the very least the old Compaq 386 that's in the basement works properly. Both it and a Compaq 286 have been sitting down there for god knows how long. The actual hardware isn't what worries me: I'm worried about the PSUs being toast, the HDDs being locked up, and/or leaked batteries. At least if shit is toast I can always steal the expansion cards and the CPUs/possible math copro's just for more cool shit in my room.

This old Quadro FX 3450 (equivalent to a 6800 gt, I think, it's the same form factor so I assume it is) I used to game on this until 2015, so yeah you can tell it was a nightmare with games like path of exile being one of my favourites back then, even Half Life 2 would have issues with it.

 

I couldn't use it in a retro system even if I wanted to sadly, because it suddenly started artifacting by itself after 2 years in storage.
