It's got some scuffs but it's all there, little 5.25" panel and expansion slot panel for the potentiometer

it has two molex cables as a requirement for the fan and leds

Here is something from me. The Compaq with the Pentium II processor was my first computer, around 2000/2001 (I was like 3 or 4 y/o then) Most of the other part i have from computers found in the dumpster. My second PC had Athlon II 6400+ but it was replaced shortly after we got it with Sempron 1800+ i think, because "Everest" (Aida64 now) reported temps like 400 C. I have few chipsets, bridges and stuff like that, because I like collecting junk like this :D

Decided to today for the hell of it that I'd get the latest version of Opera (2009) and connect the Windows 98SE PC onto my network and this is the result!

Seeing old tech like this on the internet again is an absolute laugh. I've not yet done any modifications to the OS to allow it to use newer apps for Windows NT/XP.

You've gotta try Puppy on it. I'd be super curious to see how it'd do on YouTube. Though I know from experience with that amount of RAM that it'd probably be painful.

That's one of the test all of my Windows 98SE machines go through. And so far only my Pentium II 233 has given me trouble-mainly because its got no cooling fan though (the office the machine it came from was near the ocean....so it+the heatsink are badly corroded).

New HTPC for my bedroom since my Core 2 Duo one crapped the bed. I'm only using it for emulating old consoles and Youtube/Twitch playback. But instead of breaking out one of my 10 core 2 quad towers from my computer hoarding room, I decided to have fun. Build a system that's a top end system from 2005, 13 years ago. Now I'm sure I'm not quite accurate, but I think it's close enough.

Specs:

Athlon 64 X2 2.22ghz OC'd to 2.75ghz

4 x 1GB DDR400

Asus A8N5X Socket 939 Motherboard

ATi x850XT 256mb PCI-e

Ultra 600w SLI/CF ready PSU (Maybe CF 850xts in the future?)

80GB WD Blue IDE (Yeah, I broke the time accuracy with the HDD, but oh well)

Some old stock cooler, but it's a nicer one with copper contact and some heatpipes.

Windows 7 SP1 (Yay! A 939 board that worked with 7 without headaches!)

Some really cool over the top Antec case

5$ RGB LED strip

This thing won't go over 60c with prime 95 and idles under 30c, so happy with that too.

But forget the boring specs, just LOOK AT THE THING!

20180705_231208.jpg

20180701_155430.jpg

This PSU has some pretty cables for the era. Well, it's not a 2005 PSU, but a 2006 one from what I've gathered, but close enough I guess. Funny thing is though, the controller in the PSU that controls the two 80mm fans was dead, and it seems to be a common problem with this PSU series. So I just re wired them to take molex power instead, luckily they're not really annoying. You also can't tell from these pictures, but the PSU has this badass mirror finish!

20180701_155442.jpg

Really enjoying this thing. Have it hooked up to a pretty nice tube TV because I use it for retro games a lot, but Twitch streams and Youtube videos are actually pretty nice to watch on it too.

It handles everything I wanted to do with it and it's a lot funner than yet ANOTHER 775 or AM3/AM3+ system.

Oh and of course, I filled this sucker up with fans, so it has that HUM. Not the annoying high pitched noise like a blower cooler, but that gentle hum that lets you know the machine means BUSINESS! I also like to run a fan in my room, so the extra noise won't bother me. This is also a very nostalgic build for me as 2005 was the first year I ever got interested in computers, like wanting to look inside them and wanting to know how they worked. Didn't actually learn shit till years later, but still!

Only down side is the GPU doesn't support Dolphin 5.0... Maybe an x1950 would...

Edit:

Not my picture, but I just thought I'd include a picture of the GPU. It's just so... 2000s. We've come a long way. xD
