Is it illegal to use youtube to MP3 converters?

So i see a lot of these youtube converters and a few of my friends even use them to download their music it seems pretty easy, but i can't imagine it actually being legal are they actually legal or not?

Depends on the content and the owner.

If you're downloading movies from, for example, Universal, you're going to have to get their permission. 

If you're downloading podcasts, like the WAN Show, you don't need permission because Linus has given it. 

If you don't know if you can, you'll have to get the rightful owner's permission.

Depends on copyright laws, Dont quote me on this but it may be fine if you use it for personal use and dont share it. As Wizardy said nobody would enforce it anyway so do what you want i guess...

It's like underage drinking, technically illegal but people do it anyway since it's not serious and there is pretty much no enforcement or consequence.

In some places it's legal, but what's a definitely not legal and a much more serious offence is uploading/distributing it.

Idk where you live, but in most of the world there are tons of underage people drinking no problem.

Yeah, people have been sued, but rarely when they've solely downloaded a file. If they're the one ripping and sharing it, it's a completely different story. The likelihood (and severity) of punishment for underage drinking versus that of downloading a few songs (especially using a Youtube converter) is completely different.

Again it depends the country, I know back in Germany authority are all very harsh on this but here in Brazil nobody gives a fuck.

Not saying underage drinking doesn't happen here, because it does, but it's not terribly uncommon for a party to be "raided" by the cops. It is, however, unheard of to be pursued for using a Youtube converter. (Most of the time ISPs catch on to piracy, I would venture to guess it's because of torrent traffic - easily traceable/identifiable, whereas I understand https-secured sites to be far less vulnerable to such tactics.)

1) Good for you, I don't care.

 

2) Because you had trouble understanding what an analogy is and just had to reply with "this is bad analogy hurr durr you're wrong".

 

3) As with anything, you can take it too far and get in trouble. Same with piracy, you can illegally download or upload certain stuff that will get you in big trouble.

Small things like youtube to mp3 converters, or AS AN ANALOGY a glass of wine at home, will get you in 0 trouble.

A few people have already said this but in the UK at least, It's usually fine if you download it for the soul purpose of using it for yourself.

 

You cannot distribute/sell it or share it as your own since this is then illegal.

 

Even if you play it at an event for people to listen to (after getting the music for free) it is also classed as illegal since you are sharing another persons content without their knowledge. Can still happen even if you bought the music but these days it's difficult to do anything without upsetting others.
