Intel SSDs for your new X299 system (required with optional physical keys if you feel like RAID)

Intel AIO water cooler because its going to be hot due to lack of solder

Intel GPU but not too many due to lack of pcie lanes unless you spend the big bucks.

 

All they need now is RAM and PSU and they are good to go /s

I have never been in the mining game but I do know its take a lot to get a bitcoin nowadays.

 

So is it even worth it to buy a dedicated mining card or will it even pay it self off?

You can mine Zcash with Nvidia cards for 2,5 years, then get new one from RMA.

Or just sell it to someone.

You can't realy know if GPU was used for mining.

And like you said, if fan will start to rattle, you can RMA it and get new one. EVGA sent me new GPU because of coil whine ... which is acctually normal behaviour of GPUs. Fan rattle isn't. So they would RMA it for sure.

 

And to be honest, I'm sure that 90% of those cards willw ork just fine and buyers won't even notice anything.

A lot of miners are not pushing GPUs to the limits, but rather set TDP to 70% ... so they kinda throtle GPU down to work at lower clock speeds ... meaning less heat, and fans can work slower. They do that, because it's most efficient to mine at 70% TDP (depending on cards ofc.).

 

So I must disagree with you about that.

 

 

And to egt back on the topic ... this seems rather pointless. It will be at best 20% better performing than normal Pascal card, probbably costs more and no way to sell it after you use it.

Its got to be a lot cheaper though otherwise its going to lack resale value. There are more gamers looking for a used card than miners and with a gaming card you can sell to either market.

I am guessing they aren't going to change anything about the GPU itself. They are just going to have better electronics on the board for 24/7 usage at hot temps

How well do you think Intel Power Supply Units would perform? It would be cool have a full blue and white PSU I can't think of any that's like that

Yes it's not just EVGA, but if you want the best warranty, you should stick to them.

I don't know if CUDA is still in use today, but it'd be cool if you could get one these as a cheap way to get more CUDA performance (or any other compute related tasks)

No it really doesn't: If you're buying 20, 50, 100 cards paying for them upfront it means it's still a better idea to save money on them also upfront than to hope you can sell them down the line: Card value would go down a lot quicker than their profitability as a mining card i.e. Right now there's just not too many people desperately trying to buy a 290 for example so once the cards are not turning a profit 1 to 2 years down the line selling them will probably yield poor results too. Not enough to upset buying a set of new cards later on.

 

You need to take into account that also the market for cryptos is highly volatile so it makes a lot more sense to save money right now while it's profitable than to potentially get some cash back later since later, well mining on GPUs might not be feasible or worth doing so your upfront savings paid off immediately instead.
