Between the intel box and the server video, the cancerous thumbnails and utterly useless titles youve pissed me off enouh to lose my subscription. Content feels lackluster and uninformative, and all the actual product reviews either say nothing (like the new blade review) are blatantly misleading ("revive your old laptop" and "linus got neutered" up there) or have been done weeks befre and significantly better by other channels.

Ehhh everything good comes to an end. I like their tech quickie stuff. The forum is also good but I am getting tired of holding people's hands on how to update drivers or some mindless task that they make SO easy. Also seeing a EXTREME BUDGET only $20 to spend on a PC to play GTA V maxed out is getting annoying.

at first I watched LTT for the really good reviews, then for the personalities and interesting product showcases, and now.. what exactly? To watch a months old review, a 7700k in a box, and linus running around with a pained expression on his face acting like a 4 year old who got his first sip of coke? No thanks.

I must disagree with you here. The title was misleading. They didn't revive shit. The old laptop still worked. And it wasn't even a fresh install. It was literally a "I installed this SSD a year ago and gave it to my dad, and pretended to install the SSD again".

 

They left out all the useful information that a newbie is gonna need. It's not detailed enough for inexperienced people to know all the steps.

 

How do I install the OS? How do I clone my old HDD? Should I clone or install new? How do I install drivers? Where do I find them all? How do I check if any are missing? How do I ensure my files are backed up that are important before I install new?

 

These are but some of the points that Laptop Revival video SHOULD have touched on.

 

It didn't even look at potential physical repairs (Eg: "Here's a dead RAM DIMM - now let's replace it!", or "The display inverter died, and this is how you install a new one"). It also had nothing to do with water and water damage, like the thumbnail implied (That is straight up clickbait, without a doubt).

 

That video was just a mess. Everyone who would benefit from the video, would need much more specific or detailed instructions and points. Anyone who could understand the video, didn't need it anyway as they already would have enough skill to know all of that (and more) already.

As @MrDynamicMan pointed out, English sucks, and words have too many meanings :P But I would go so far as to suggest, even assuming the "breath new life into it" definition, the video was still shit. It didn't cover enough detail on what to do, and outright omitted extremely critical information about the process and the reasons behind doing it.

That was the worse video they ever uploaded in my opinion, because the subject was already discussed by every single tech channel, by the time they uploaded it EVERYONE knows that SSD in an old laptop helps it out, and who didn't by chance learned nothing about the process itself from it.

Just going out and saying "i dont like this" doesn't help anyone.

I've done that. In this very thread, I've offered some suggestions on how disastrous videos could have been made better. I've suggested multiple times, in this thread, and on the forums as a whole, what I think LTT should do differently.

 

By simply closing this thread, or having it not exist at all, removes one of those avenues, in which I can voice my constructive complaints.

 

As I said earlier, if you feel this thread has nothing to offer, then simply report it, ask a mod to lock it, and give your arguments/reasoning for doing so to the Mod. Maybe you can convince them that you are correct.

 

I think that @MrDynamicMan has already voiced his concerns, and he's seen no improvement or change since he's voiced them. Quite frankly, if the OP didn't tell LMG why he unsubbed, then the fact that he unsubbed would have been useless data to them. They need to know WHY someone unsubs. Otherwise they may think it's just part of some other trend, which may or may not be accurate or true.

Yes, they do need to know why someone unsubbed but that's a one way street. It really doesn't help fix the problem. What needs to be stated in these types of threads is what they would need to do to get the OP back as a subscriber.

I think the OP's OP would give a basic understanding. Plus the rest of their posts in this thread.

 

But I agree, having a clear "statement" about under what circumstances they might re-sub, would be better.

I must disagree with you here. The title was misleading. They didn't revive shit. The old laptop still worked. And it wasn't even a fresh install. It was literally a "I installed this SSD a year ago and gave it to my dad, and pretended to install the SSD again".

 

They left out all the useful information that a newbie is gonna need. It's not detailed enough for inexperienced people to know all the steps.

 

How do I install the OS? How do I clone my old HDD? Should I clone or install new? How do I install drivers? Where do I find them all? How do I check if any are missing? How do I ensure my files are backed up that are important before I install new?

 

These are but some of the points that Laptop Revival video SHOULD have touched on.

 

It didn't even look at potential physical repairs (Eg: "Here's a dead RAM DIMM - now let's replace it!", or "The display inverter died, and this is how you install a new one"). It also had nothing to do with water and water damage, like the thumbnail implied (That is straight up clickbait, without a doubt).

 

That video was just a mess. Everyone who would benefit from the video, would need much more specific or detailed instructions and points. Anyone who could understand the video, didn't need it anyway as they already would have enough skill to know all of that (and more) already.

I agree. That video was terrible. By just simply re-using an SSD with an OS already installed, they left out a lot of key details, like... you need to install an OS on the new storage device. Or any other steps, like what you mentioned. There can be so much more in reviving an old laptop than just simply replacing the storage, and they barely touched on it.


I'm still gonna be subbed to LTT, but I've also subbed to a number of other tech channels as well. I don't want to be reliant on just one channel for tech content.
