The new Corsair VS line isn't that bad. Certainly competes well with the older green CX units that are rated one or two tiers higher in your list.

Ah, I always assume people are going for the yellow VS line.

I thought the newest VS was the same platform as the EVGA W1 from HEC, can't see it being that good. Or do you have sauce?

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

The new VS doesn't have the certifications required to sell it in Europe, plus I really haven't seen them in Australia either, so the old CWT GPA or whatever it is really only what we see

Excuse me, im a bit confused on choosing the best psu around $50 since there are some that are not included in the list.

Here are the psu that i seek for:

1. XFX XT Series 400W

2. be quiet! SYSTEM POWER 8 400W

3. Super Flower BRONZE FX 450W

4. Seasonic ECO Series 430W

ECO series is probably the safest bet of those.

Same platform, but there is a heatsink over the bridge rectifier to stop it blowing up "like two Note 7's" during load.

Related, but with some changes. It's more similar to the EVGA B units.

Technically HDB is a better version of Sleeve bearing (well, potentially anyway, HDB isn't exactly well defined or consistent).

The information regarding it having an HDB fan was incorrect. It's the traditional sleeved bearing fan. You can read on it here: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/evga-b3-psus-super-flower,34115.html

Ah, I don't know if I had mentioned it here. The EVGA B3 looks like the SF Leadex Silver platform.

It's got a sleeve-bearing fan and since I strongly dislike sleeve-bearing fans since they wear out relatively quick when mounted horizontally.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure that the B3 is based on a platform in the Leadex family and is probably going to build by RSY.

If you look at the images, you will see placement of the primary capacitor, daughterboard that house the APFC controller (is wrapped in EMI shielded tape), the green NTC thermistor, that small transformer, that screwed on FET on heatsink for the +12V, and you could see a little bit of the main transformer on the B3 image. Everything looks the same at the exhaust, but it seem that the B3 has an extra x-capacitor in the area that mark "C2" on the Leadex Silver PCB and larger heatsinks.

Riotoro Onyx 650W PSU review.

Spoiler

DSC_0943.jpg

A familiar sight? These modular connectors are identical in shape and text to the ones on the Corsair CXM.

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story2&reid=515

That said this unit is based on a different platform by Great Wall (who made the amazing Corsair SF450 and SF600 and I'm beginning to think highly of) and it did pretty well in reviews. And it's an LLC resonant + DC/DC for the minor rails. Way to go!

But I'm sure @STRMfrmXMN will hate its sleeve bearing fan. T3 eh?

I would say for $70, you could do a lot worse than this unit. Just gotta mod an NF-F12 in place of the crappy stock fan.

Also by the names of the pictures I can tell Oklahoma shoots with a Sony Cybershot. ;)

Riotoro was founded by a group of guys from Corsair with other people from other big companies like EVGA, so it makes a lot of sense. But at what point does it constitute a break of IP? I don't know.,

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I would really like black PGB on power supplies. Just so I don't have to look at bright green while it's night and I'm perusing the reviews.
