Nvidia graphics cards suffer shortages and see increased pricing

Strong demand for high-end graphics cards especially from China has caused some of Nvidia's graphics cards to suffer from shortages, which has boosted their average pricing by 15%, benefiting Nvidia, Colorful, Galaxy and Asustek Computer's profitability, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

China is the largest graphics card market worldwide and its graphics card shipments have seen decreases at a much slower pace than expected in 2015 because of increasing demand from the gaming market and Internet cafes.

The largest graphics card player worldwide Palit Microsystems, which also runs a graphics card sub-brand Galaxy, is expected to ship over eight million graphics cards in 2015 with Asustek Computer coming in second with 4.6-4.8 million units. Gigabyte Technology and Micro-Star International (MSI) are expected to ship 3.2 million units each.

As for the China market, Colorful will be the largest graphics card vendor, followed by Galaxy and Asustek.

although it is not 101% clear, the price increase might be spread world-wide and not limited to chinese market

I suspect it will be about two months until Jon Peddie Research (JPR) will publish their 2015 Q5  market analysis and will see exactly what changed year-to-year in discrete graphics shipments

The sources pointed out that demand for professional graphics in segments such as industrial machines, animation/gaming, architecture, advertising, multimedia, web development, photography and printing has been growing in China.

If they are indeed raising prices like that (im not sure if it's globally or just China) then AMD is gonna just look better at their price point. It's silly to go with Nvidia if the 15% price hike is true.

sure, if nVidia can't deliver enough cards to satisfy the market, then and only then, AMD will bank on this

They'll look better but I doubt it will change anything. Nvidia has such a stranglehold on the dedicated GPU market they would need another FX series and AMD would need another 9x00 (the original, not the HD 9x00) in order for it to really do much, if even that would cause a shift.

I doubt that will happen. It's pretty rare that these things actually result in outright bans. Nvidia will settle out of court if they have to to avoid that.
