The gift i would want to get for my mom would be a new computer monitor. (http://amzn.com/B0043T7FKC)

My Mom is currently using a monitor she bought in 2005 that is complete rubbish. She does a lot of work on the computer (selling on Ebay, basic finances, and managing family photos). Doing all of this on a small monitor that is 4:3 with a horrible resolution is getting harder for her. Being able to see family photos in 1080p for the first time and not having to always zoom in on text on the internet would be huge for her. And with the built-in webcam on the monitor she won't have to deal with another gadget she doesn't know how to use, which would allow her to skype with her family in Canada that she rarely gets to see.

Thanks for the giveaway everyone at LMG. I hope y'all have a great holiday season! :)

Edit: I'll try to get a picture of her horrible monitor when i get a chance

Edit 2: Here is the link to a picture of her monitor (http://imgur.com/UaSne2W) It is a 19 Inch 1280x1024 monitor with only a DVI and VGA input. She got it when it was released in 2005. For anyone asking the monitor is the Samsung 930b.

 CPU: AMD FX-6300     COOLER: Hyper 212 EVO    MOBO: ASUS M5A97 R2.0    RAM: Team Vulcan 8Gb (4Gb x 2) , G-Skill Sniper (4Gb x 2)    PSU: Rosewill HIVE-750w    GPU: ASUS HD 7790 2Gb OC    CASE: NZXT Phantom 410    STORAGE: WD Black 1Tb , Intel 530 120Gb     AUDIO: HyperX Cloud , Sennheiser HD 518 , Audio Technica ATH-M30 , Sennheiser MM30G , Yamaha RX-V361 , Pioneer SP-BS22     PHONE: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge     PERIPHERALS: Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Classic , Logitech g502 ( Thanks Syntaxvgm <3 )

My mom is still using the iPad 1st gen. It cannot go on the internet because it is too slow and she loves to read on it, but the battery dies quite fast and apps take forever to open.

It also does not support 70% of the apps on the store because of its age. She hints about a new tablet all the time, which has become a running joke now.

She shouts "Wow, my iPad opens calendar really fast.!" in a really sarcastic voice.

I want to get her a Nexus 9 tablet.

If color options, white or gold rather than black.

For my parents i'd get them a Nvidia Shield TV with remote so they could explore the fun of Netflix & stream stuff off my home server. Since all they watch is free to air TV here, and there's sometimes nothing worth watching & they've no real interest in my movie collection, since they prefer to just watch TV shows.

An Intel NUC for either my parents as a work-media PC, or for my sister so that I can get her into low end (Valve) games.

I might also be able to gift it to my church so that we can live stream our services.

A SSD for my sister. She has a fairly old laptop and always downloads some crap on it.

It is really slow because of that and with a SSD no matter how much junk

she downloads and whatever she does with the laptop it will stay pretty fast.

Since a 500GB SSD is only 147$ right now and my dad has a really slow laptop too I would

love to gift both of them a 512gb SSD

I assume you want a Amazon US link

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E500B-AM/dp/B00OBRE5UE/

Right now the price is 147$ x2 = 294$

If the prices change and is over 300$ it would be great if you could give me 1x 500gb

and 1x 250gb.

Thanks for the giveaway @everyone at LinusTechTips <3

Nice giveaway for the holidays guys :)

I would love to buy a Samsung Gear S2 for my Fiance, but she never let's me because "Its soooo expensive and I don't even know how to use it". She has a smart phone but only using the basic stuff on it like really basic web browsing, Facebook, occasionally some games. I'm slowly moving her forward in tech but sometimes its pretty hard. She loves the tech things when she finally able to use them correctly, but its really hard to push her in the right directions. She doesn't like change too much :)

I think this would be an awesome gift for her, she always misses her calls and text because she forgets to turn the sound back on, or just simply can't hear the phone in her purse. Also shes traveling a lot and can't really react to anything phone / text related easily while on the move. The gear S2 would fix a lot of those problems having almost full control on her wrists.

Thanks and good luck for everyone!

I could totally understand you Linus when you said you gave tech to your parents and they didn't know how to use it, had tons of problems and ended up calling you every single day. I gave a Kindle Fire HD 7 to my grandma because I got it for very cheap and wanted to get her connected to the Internet. Definitely the wrong buying decision: The stock software was horrible and she didn't like really like a lot of aspects of it. So I put CyanogenMod on it 'cause I was happy with that on my phone. But I as a tech person forgot all the crashes and random Issues CM has. So she ended up calling me every day because the camera app stopped, the screen froze up completely or the thing was just stuck in a bootloop for hours.

So this year, I want give her a Tablet that "just works" to solve her Problems which will make her and me a lot happier. And a Tablet that is bigger and has a good camera THAT DOESN'T JUST FREEZE UP because she loves taking pictures of her garden.

You really are right. We techies forget a lot of times that sometimes, something just has to work and not be cheap and have lots of features, but ends up breaking all the time.

Well I would give this TV to my parents:

http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-43LF5400-43-Inch-1080p/dp/B00ZVCZYTO/ref=sr_1_1?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1449237197&sr=1-1&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_three_browse-bin%3A7688789011%2Cp_89%3ALG%2Cp_36%3A8589204011

And the reason for it is that they still believe that their 7 inch thick "flatscreen" - I still laugh when I hear them use that word - with marbles for pixels and either the worst 720p panel on the planet or not even a 720p panel (believe me, it's so bad i don't even want to check it just has to go) is quite a good TV. Sorry what? Quite good? Honestly they still have VHS-Player hooked to it, and I am nostalgic and therefor all for it, but the tv is so bad you don't really see the difference between playing a dvd or a vhs!

And what is more, whenever my mom is at my place she says she wants my tv when I get a new one. This won’t be soon because those LG-OLED are still kinda expensive ;)

So well maybe if my parents would have a better TV, my father would actually watch it instead of falling asleep in front of it.

Hi,

First of all, thank you for this give-away. This is amazing and I am glad that someone out there can gift their loved ones something that they possibly couldn't afford otherwise.

When it comes to my entry here, I'd love to gift my dad some headphones.

My dad was an audiophile back in the day. He spent so much money on his audio set-up in the living room and his record-players, but somehow this lost its relevance to him. The amp isn't working any more, the speakers are dusty and stored in the attic. He recently came to me, while I was listening to some music on my PC using my headset (I have a decent audio set-up, but I was lazy and used my headset, because I was waiting for a Skype call). He asked me, what I was listening to and I handed him the not so great, but decent Vengeance 2100 with Grieg's "In the hall of the mountain king". He absolutely loved it.

Now, I realized that he was using cheap terrible in-ear headphones while listening to music, so I asked him why. To which he responded "every time I go to the hospital (this is a few times a week), there are a lot of people on the train. It would not make much of a difference if I had better ones. I can barely hear the music anyway."

So, I'd love to surprise him with a pair of Bose QuietComfort 25. I just wanted to gift him this to show him how far noise-cancelling came in the last years. Also even when not cancelling, these headphones are quite nice and I am sure he would enjoy them greatly.

Again, Thank you for this give-away.

Looking forward,

FH

a pre-built nas for my mother and sister to store files and pictures - had many a times data was loss (including my childhood pictures and family documents) due to hardware failure, my mom is relying on a USB stick to keep all her files. Also, my father would be able to access it remotely from Korea. A prebuilt one would easier to use (easier UI and CS), since I am moving out I cannot be the family tech support.
