Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

I would get a Google onhub router for my parents.  The wifi back home went out so

they went without wifi for 2 months because they couldn't figure out how to reset the

router.  Being able to change the settings from my phone would help (and the fact

that it is extremely user friendly).  They've also had the same router for like 5 years

that can't even reach my room when I'm right under the router.

I'd give a good friend and classmate of mine a D-Link AC3200 Ultra router, because the Wifi at his dorm is not simply bad,  it's down right TERRIBLE. And since we come there a lot (it's a nexus point between the school and our other dorms) to play D&D or just to chill, good internet is a must.

My dad, 68, was once an assisting teacher in computing back when computers were bigger than a small house and had punched cards instead of keyboards and screens.

But today, he own a phone smarter than him and barely know how to use Windows and Internet (read: browser) for accessing the already too complicated Facebook.

If I had to find a nice tech gift to give him, it would be a Chromebook. No Windows, no updates that break stuff, no antivirus, no calling me in panic because of a Windows-error-message-that-I-don't-know-what-it-says-and-I-don't-want-to-loose-my-music.

I would go with an Asus Chromebook Flip for the model because it have a touchscreen which is very user friendly and the tablet/tent modes are great for media consumption.

This will also be a better choice than an iPad/tablet because of the keyboard and "full laptop" feel (my dad hate changing his habits) but still allows him to video-call the family and play Sudoku/Solitaire games like a normal tablet.

I have been wanting to get my dad a ups for a while. He works from home and when we lose power he loses any work he forgot to save. I'm also worried about not having his nas hooked up to a ups as that is where most of our family photos and other important things are. We do some backups to the cloud but we don't have enough space so it only ends up being the most important photos and documents.

Here is the link

My parents own a business so they need to make backups pretty often.  They've been using the same old toshiba external harddrive forever and don't back up often enough.  I would get them a WD my cloud nas because they're supposed to be easy to use and I would hope that they would be inclined to use it very often.

This link defaults to the 4TB 2 drive one, but the 4TB SINGLE drive one is far less expensive and would take up much less space.

Hi,

I would like to get a tablet for my mom since she's been on the fence for a long time about getting one and I think she would really like it.

http://www.amazon.com/Nvidia-Shield-8-0-Inch-Tablet-Version/dp/B0171BS9CG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449191493&sr=8-1&keywords=Nvidia+Shield+K-1+8.0-Inch+32+GB+Tablet

If that isn't possible, since according to amazon that product is out of stock, I would like to get a second monitor for my brother since he has been getting into video editing and is always complaining about not having enough space on his one monitor.

Every year I look for a cool, unique and useful gift for my family, however, they never seem willing to try something too "difficult".  I think they would love the simplicity and ease of use from the Amazon Echo and use it often.  I am there go to person for technology issues, however I live at college 8 months of the year, so something like Amazon Echo could help because they could just talk to it.  The speaker function would be a great addition to their parties because my parents seem to love only playing the same  3 CDs every time they have people over.  Being a college kid, I'd love to buy them an Amazon Echo, however, I am a little strapped for cash so when I saw this contest I figured I'd give it a shot.  Luckily, the Echo is well under the 300$ limit for this contest.  Merry Christmas all, and good luck to everyone that enters.

My brother has been doing some gigs using some crappy headphones that are starting to break up because all that jumping in clubs, and I think he deserves some better ones that could survive through his lifetime while providing good audio...

And since Linus liked these ones I think they would be a good fit for him.

I would get them the Nest Thermostat becasue it will allow a lot better control over their A/C while being simple to use. they also have a Nest smoke alarm already so it should be with in their reach to set up.

I would like to get my Fiance a pair of wireless earbuds specifically for running. Every once in a while she will conplain about her earbuds getting yanked out during a run and I figure a nice set of wireless ones would solve this problem. As a bonus these even have a heart rate monitor built in for extra training goodness.

If I were to get a tech gift for someone it has to be the One Plus X for my mom, her old Samsung Galaxy S2x is not holding up anymore and the One Plus X would be perfect. The price is great and the phone is great. The build quality is excellent and the features that they cut off for the low price is stuff like wireless charging and NFC which she won't use anyways. Although its hard to get for me, it will probably be easier for LTT to get it and the phone would make a great Christmas present.

Thank you and merry christmas.

Sennheiser RS 175 RF Wireless Headphone System for my 3yr old daughter Elle. She was diagnosed with permanent hearing loss and I want her to be able to move around the living room to sit down if she wants like her sister without a dangerous cord (yeah the current ones are pretty short).

I chose this product partly because LTT speaks highly in most videos of the brand and I am really not sure what's best, and also partly due to it being one of the first search items when searching in Amazon "headphones for hearing impaired for tv". Current setup is her standing next to the TV with my V-Modas..temporary solution as standing for an hour is not ideal. She still loves it though...even if we don't win I would be grateful for "anyone's" input on the best solution for my little girl. Thanks!
