1080p screen of 14 inches, Core i7, GTX 980M, understated looks and to be fairly thin to keep it portable. Screen must be IPS and battery life must exceed 3 hours. Should go back to onboard GPU under battery.

Thinness. Le sexy, yet understates and minimalist looks. Preferable material choice would be aluminum.. or adamantium

 

Horsepower. 965M SLI (anything above that would draw too much power for my tastes. and it would be hot as f.) Plus it would be 13-14 inches so there is no room for 980 SLI cooling wise. An i7. No idea about the code names. Something powerful, without being over the top

 

White backlight keyboard. Or RGB for that #gamer factor. 1440p screen (anything above that is overkill on such a small screen IMO, plus its a battery killer). Speaking of battery, I want good battery life. At least Razer Blade 2014 battery life

 

Cool light up logo on the top, because why not.

I've only found one notebook to meet (most) of these needs, the 15" rMBP. Call me an Apple plebian, but It's fantastic. My ideal, albeit currently somewhat unrealistic solution, would be something in the form factor of a MBA or an Ultrabook, decent CPU/RAM/Storage, with a mobile GPU to keep the battery life acceptable. I've seen a few Thunderbolt GPU docks (Linus even covered one at CES), however I haven't seen anyone to implement a practical, elegant solution. The current docks seem very bulky, to a point where you couldn't carry them comfortably where you would need the extra horsepower. Something you could slip into a bag while only adding a few pounds of bulk, when paired with a sleek notebook, could blur the line between stationary and mobile machines. Apple, as much of a design and engineering force they are, would likely be one of the last companies to introduce a non-proprietary product to meet these needs. This is a product I have yet to see an ideal implementation into yet.

My dream laptop would be the one I have now, but with a 1080p IPS screen (this option is actually available on my laptop model, but my particular variant doesn't have it, only TN 1366x768) and an okay GPU, nothing too fancy, an 840M would be perfect, still gotta keep some decent battery life in there.

13" IPS 1080p/1440p screen, no touch interface however, with a broadwell core i7, gtx 980m graphics with ability to upgrade to next gen GPU, 16GB ram capable of supporting 32GB, two M.2 256GB SSDs in RAID 0 along with two more 1TB SSDs in raid 1. A blu-ray writer would be good as well, along with an aluminium construction, apple chiclet style keyboard and two USB 3.0 ports, a card reader, a gigabit lan port, high quality internal amp & dac with headphone and microphone ports, a thunderbolt port as well just to round it out. Oh, and a battery capable of lasting 6+ hours would be great as well.

If the Surface Pro uses a solid laptop hinge, then it won't be able to flip the keyboard on the back in tablet mode and carry it, not position the the device in a position of drawing.

 

This means, you won't be able to do this:

 

And, if you use it as a tablet at time, you need to carry a keyboard with you separately, while now, you just flip the keyboard on the back as a cover.

 

Not to mention that a solid hinge will add considerable weight and size to the device.

I don't care about weight/thickness as long as they can make it comfortable/usable. I also hate not using mechanical switches, so the MSI GT80 is ideal for me...and also happens to be extremely powerful with its i7 and dual 980m SLI. Also upradability!

I actually think it should be in front (cant recall the last time I saw one of those lol) just because I use big cans with coiled cables and its a pain in the butt to keep moving cables as I type and use the computer.
