Should I buy an intel cpu or buy a am4 motherboard and amd cpu

Hi, in my computer I have an lga 1151 chip socket motherboard.  I was wondering If I should buy a really good Cpu for Intel such as an Intel i9 9900k.  Or should I get an amd cpu and a am4 motherboard. (I mainly use my computer for light coding, gaming/streaming, and editing my YT videos, My computer is having trouble rendering).

 

Specs:

i5 9400f 2.9 ghz

24 gigs of ram

rtx 2080

ASRock B360M Pro4 

250 gigs of ssd

1tb of hdd

What is your budget and what country are you shopping from, it may be worth changing platforms since Ryzen offers significantly better multi-threaded results than comparable Intel CPUs and that will really help cut down on render times and improve the overall editing experience?

If you already have a satisfactory motherboard, there's no point in switching it - get an i9-9900 and it should get the job done
It's a lot faster than the 9400F

I am not an expert but you should probably get an AMD processor. Don't know anything about mobos but the 2080 is most likely bottlenecked, from the mobo and the CPU.

I wouldn't use a 9900k with that motherboard.

Also, for the price of the 9900k you can buy a 10700k and a new motherboard. So.

I'd take a look at the 10600k honestly. That, or wait for the new Ryzen chips.

Well obviously you would 

But a Bottleneck in the sense that the GPU is being slowed down by the cpu isn't a thing in this case.

Yes it is. That's what a bottleneck is; reduced performance by an under performing part.

A Bottleneck is the weakest link on the team 

A 9400f absolutely won't slow down a 2080 

Not because it has a bad reputation, that means it's an utterly crap cpu.

No it's not. It's any part that slows down the rest of the build. You can have multiple bottlenecks in a system, and every system has a bottleneck somewhere.

You said yourself you'll get more performance with a faster CPU. What's that mean? That it's bottlenecking the GPU.

At this point, I'd say get a new motherboard either way, if you want to upgrade, but Intel or AMD is a different choice.

 

Personally I'd wait to see what Zen 3 brings later this year. The 10th gen Intel chips seem to be really competitive on price and cores/clocks (it's usually always a trade-off. AMD will give you more cores, Intel will give you more clocks). Either way you can't go wrong with either a 10th gen Intel chip or a 3000-series AMD. That math might change dramatically with the 4000-series AMD chips, though.

You have a system now that works, although not great, for what you need it to do. So, waiting for Zen 3 probably makes the most sense for you, because then you can get a new motherboard and CPU with way more threads and have something that will be great for rendering your videos and playing games too.

I wouldn't trust that board with a 9900K and on top of that you don't have any overclocking support which makes the K SKU pointless. 

 

If you want to upgrade I'd go Zen, better value and you can get a 3900X for less than a 9900K. Gives you 4 extra cores for rendering.

Zen 3 (or ryzen 4000 desktop confusing I know) will use am4.

Wait a few months and the buy a new motherboard and a Zen 3 CPU, or a used 3900x or 3950x if you find them cheap.

 

Then sell your current Intel stuff to make a couple hundred bucks back.
