I think the phone industry has finally run out of ideas.  the whole folding phone thing has promise but it's real early days.

Swipe over, as in how content spills over it as you scroll? I hate how it distorts content, ads no real functionality and makes it awkward to hold.

That's only two generations It's not that bad. This generation has substantial improvements.

I'd like to see how Apple would handle having 6 sensors and an LED array....it'd likely be even worse.

Don't know about you, but I don't stare at the back of my phone that often

I'd rather have something that's a little behind with updates than a phone that's a complete shit show like the Pixel.

I love the curved display personally. The side bar you can swipe over is a really nice touch and I use it many, many times a day.

IIRC that's supposed to change with Android 10, which all new phones will be required to have by a certain date; updates will be pushed through the Playstore.

Either way though, if you upgrade every couple of years why is the fact they don't get support 3 years down the line even a consideration for purchase?

Do you really store more than 512GB of stuff on your phone?

If the hole punch bothers you that much, you only have to last another year before it's gone. So the Note should last you that long easily.

No I dont store that much data on my phone. but i do like being able to keep data separate from the phone internal storage.

 

I dont like the pin hole, i dont like the notches. I could handle a pop up mechanical front camera. I get that its another point of failure but since i dont use the front camera that wouldnt be an issue for me personally.

You'll get security updates through the Play Store, but not OS updates.  Also, while that does improve the consistency of security updates (vendors can't skip or delay updates like they do now), it doesn't guarantee that you'll get updates for any longer.

 

And like I said, I want to know that I don't have to replace my phone every couple of years to get the latest OS version.  If I have to keep my phone a bit longer, or simply don't find next year's hardware compelling, I'm not stuck with outdated software.  I'm also thinking about people beyond myself.  I don't think someone should fall behind on features or security because they can't justify replacing their phone every two years like clockwork.

You still get security updates even if your not on the latest android do you not?

 

I know ive installed security updates a number of times since android 10 was released and im still on 9.

You do, but it also depends on your OS version and sometimes your vendor.  At last check, Google's contracts with vendors only required security updates for two years; they're still free to update the full three years, but they might not be obligated to do so.  So if you started with Android 9, your security updates might stop around the launch of Android 11, and almost certainly by the time Android 12 is available.

Security updates are all that truly matter to me so as long as samsung keeps that up then im happy. I dont see alot of reasons for constant OS updates.

It's really not that bad, unless you're using a phone where the curve is too pronounced. No Samsung phone I've used is that bad.

I've also never had a problem holding a phone with a curved display

Yeah I just added various cons I see, though still mainly is how content spills from the display and distorts especially if you watch a video for example and also there can be glare at those glass edges.

I havent seen a single new phone that i like.  They take away headphone jacks, sd card readers, and then give us these god awful notches. Id rather they got rid of the selfie cam all together. I cant think of a time where i needed a selfie cam.  

 

Yeah, the Note 9 IMO is missing 2 important features. Non-removable battery, and too much curve. Those two features being like that annoy me. I notice the screen brightness/bleed on light from the curved edges, let alone miss clicks (though Samsungs software is good enough usually at avoiding edge clicks).

But we're not forced to get new PC parts every 2 years or it's locked out from getting any updates and new OS releases. A 10+ year old Core 2 Duo, can still have Windows 10 installed. I know my first smart phone, the HTC One M7, cannot have Android 10.

The security update, is Samsung really that good with it? I don't own any Samsung smart phones, my parent does and their phone came with Android 4.1. Samsung won't even allow to upgrade to Android 5.0.

I prefer the notch, over the punch out hole. At least the notch isn't trying to hide itself, it's always been there, as that is where the receiver, has always been located. Punch out hole on the other hand, it's trying to hard to itself and it looks stupid.

Honestly I don't care at all anymore. I used to when I had a 6S+ but when I went to an X and got airpods it's really much better. I still use wired headphones and the adapter isn't annoying either. I simply keep it attached at all times so I don't loose it

Anyone with 2 brain cells can figure the Main Galaxy S series and the A series are just not the same, Quick refresh M series is mid range-budget friendly, horrible support, A series a step about M series but still horrible support over the long run and quick discontinuation of OS updates outside of USA, S series is their Flagship phones where you'd likely to get 2 OS updates guaranteed and much better support over all. 

why the fuck would i downgrade to an Galaxy A series from an Galaxy S series? i'm not being picky, i'm being practical. as i said, wake me up when they get rid of the holepunch. it's assumed i'm talking about the main Galaxy line up, not the A or the M series which most of them haven't heard as they wont sell it across the world.

Can it on Amazon for the price of $500. At $500 anyone with at least 1/2 a brain cell would get a iPhone XR, it would have a much longer support, even compared to that $1000+ Samsung Galaxy S.

That actually makes alot of sense. The only issue that I would have is I often charge my phone while listening to music so if I couldn't do that then it would be problematic.
